Grand Scenic Tour: Salerno to Naples and Islands

Hi everyone!
Starting from LIRI - Salerno Costa d’Amalfi Airport, you take a couple of friends on a low altitude (2,500 ft) VFR scenic flight over the Salerno, Amalfi and Napoli Gulfs. Waypoints in this flight are convenientely labeled with the name of the POI. With a Cessna 172 aircraft the tour takes about 75 minutes. To enjoy the sightseeing choose a clear day: you can count on one in real weather most of the year.

Jeez, my most favorite place in Italy… Sorrento Area and gulf of naples were elected to one of the most beautiful VFR areas in one of the general aviation magazines here…

Wow! Then let me know your impressions after you take the trip. :slightly_smiling_face:

Well, that’s the first thing I’m doing tonight, after work. Thanks!

Naples is done well. Rest of Amalfi coast is awful, they have butchered it

I completed this flight earlier in the modded 152. Took 1:15.

That was a really enjoyable coastal flight. The only thing I would change is the placement of some of the waypoints. The sim doesn’t draw then,Ines optimally, and with the line out at sea in some cases, you have to fly a bit out of you way to activate it, but that’s not really the point, is it?

Well done. I also made use of the VORDME. To line me up with the runway, which worked well, although the actual installation isn’t drawn, but the tarmacced area should be is there.

Perhaps these are things that may appear in future, like the powerline pylons we now see.

You are right, the flight plan is just a way to sequence the flight through all the point of interest. It is up to the pilot to keep a convenient distance from the waypoints so as to execute the circling above and around the target to allow the passengers to see the view. The published VORDME procedure is for runway 05.
I was surprised to see that on fs2020 ithe runway is crossed as closed, so followed with a circuit to land!

Yeah, me too. Was tempted to just go straight in but thought, no, I’m doing this properly.

How do I load that flight plan in game?

Great flight. I live in Salerno
Why did you write 05 at liri is closed? It is not true

Press space on the map screen, then search for the PLN file.

Have tried form Brest to Naples? It’s a scenic journey too.

Asessa. I know it must be open in real life but in FS2020 runway 05 is considered closed: only 23 is available in the list of runways for approach in the MFD, and if you overfly it, you will see the runway head number 05 is crossed out. This is the standard visual marking of a closed runway

DonQuilmi29, are you joking? LFRB - LIRN would take something like 8 hours to complete in a CESSNA 172, as it’s close to 1000NM.This is not the definition of a scenic flight, which is a local flight, at low speed and altitude.

Nice flight and pix!

We can add continent tags (like “europe”) to our posts now to make it easier for people to find things for their area, specially as the number of flight threads grows. :small_airplane: :smiley_cat:

Well. Yes I was. From Bre(a)st to Naples (With an « i ») ?
Ok I’m out…

Oh, no!  :face_with_hand_over_mouth:

Concur. I’m impressed by the locals able to drive on the vertically oriented SS-163 Motorway.

Zendesk ticket was filed. They really need to QC the mesh and elevation, especially in tough places like the craggy Amalfi coastline.

Lots of those along the Pacific Coast Highway in the US, too. I think if they used a higher-resolution mesh it would be nicer. :small_airplane: :smiley_cat:

Love these kind of posts! The world is so large that it’s difficult to decide what to do sometimes. This is great inspiration, thanks!
