I’m sure I’m not the only one noticing that grass has massively grown with the SU5 ?
I just noticed the same thing! I released this airport the day before the update and it surely didn’t look like this. This isn’t the first time the grass changes height from one update to another. It’s really annoying as we have no easy way to control this ourselves.
Might be a sneaky prep for the Microsoft Mowing Simulator 2021. That would make for a great community mod BTW
I noticed as well hahaha I really like the new size, it feels more reallistic for most areas
It’s growthful weather you know… Who knows this is maybe the first implemtation of seasons
xD might be
Hm I think it looks good, the more dense the vegetation is the more beautyful it is when taxiing or parking the aircraft.
Look carefully, it’s not about density, it’s about height.
The only Mowing Simulator where your computer generates more heat & noise than an actual lawnmower.
It’s not just grass, I reckon the trees also are too tall.
The file you want to alter is ‘10-asobo_species.xml’
For the Steam version it’s
“C:\Users[user name]\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft Flight Simulator\Packages\Official\Steam\fs-base\vegetation\10-asobo_species.xml”
I halved all the min and max values and things are now more believeable
Again, a third-party problem. I already know why my community directory remains empty. Looks more like the thirdparties need to update their addons. A standard Grass airfield looks like this on Ultra for me:
How is this even remotely helpful? The grass is way to tall and currently there is no documented way to change it but here you are telling developers to empty their community directory…
Weird how some people get different results. For me, with no add ons it’s grass up to the belly of the aircraft, anywhere I land.
It’s even growing in the middle of the highways.
Here is the runway on the default version of the field I’m working on. The community folder is completely empty so I’d say that we can scrap the idea that this is related to add-ons.
All of this “Clear your community folder” and remove add-ons is only going to do one thing! Deter dev’s from making add-ons if we falsely perpetrate this myth that every issue is related to add-ons.
Clearing your community is garbage and a fallacy. It wont affect updates, but you may get issue when trying to load after an update, But you would get that anyway, we dont delete all our add-ons after every update and start again, we test them right?
I have never done it and never had an “UPDATE” issue…
Well, I have completely reinstalled my MFS after SU5. Is that perhaps the difference? If your community folder is empty, you haven’t manipulated any files and you haven’t installed any third parties, then you should write a ticket to Asobo.
Or something else. Obviously they are on another grass runway. Where is that (ICAO code)? I’d like to see if the grass is too high there too.
It’s the first thing I did after some testing
Yeah it would be a great idea for you to spawn here as well, the code is ESGI and the image I’ve taken here is from the spawn point on the south part of the runway. Please use the same airplane as well as that is a good reference.
Reinstalling the sim isn’t something I’ve done so I guess that can be a potential short term solution in one way but it’s not very usable in the long run.
I’ll try to load the same field on my Xbox today if I get the time for it as well.
ICAO-Code: ESGI
RWY:01
I have now tried the following to force tall grass:
- Seasons (change months)
- Live weather, tried all preset weather
- all traffic sliders on 100% (yes I know, Fauna Density is not Flora, but you never know)
- Photogrammetry on/off
Nothing has caused my grass to grow taller. It could have been that it grows faster from the middle to the end of the year and Asobo would not have documented this. But no, it’s always the same short length for me. Do you have the rolling cache on? Is your MFS perhaps fetching old data? Otherwise, I have now switched my MFS to English so that I can post all my settings here. This might make it easier to compare the settings. But if the rolling cache is also deactivated for you, then it can only be a server problem or a new installation (which I hope is not the case). Or is it even an AMD vs NVidia issue and you all have an NVidia card and my AMD shows the grass differently?
Here are all my settings:
