Ground at night again too bright?

Above the KSA desert, the ground is too bright, shouldn’t it be pitch black?

Was there a full or partial full moon that night?

No, I dont see the moon

I see now, Yes its there.

Moved out from Sim Update 4 Beta | MSFS 2024 since topic is not about a regression.

Tonight we have the largest full moon of the year, 7% larger and 20% more light than an average full moon.

I have no idea if the sim has modeled this or if every full moon is just the same, but tonight the world is illuminated.

This is a regression, This image is few builds back, Pitch black

I moved it back to SU4 in case others SU4 users want to contribute.

Moonphase!

A fullmoon is even casting shadows. Go outside, get out of urbanisation and see for yourself.

Just checked, The darkness remains the same as every night + I don’t think such a thing exists in the sim. Mod can correct me if I’m wrong.

Do you know how was the moon when that screenshot has been taken ?.
In order to compare screenshots, sky conditions should be the same.

We are just users and don’t have access to additional information other than the one provided in the forums. The only way I guess is to perform some tests at night and try to find out.

Ah, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. I’ll have a look tomorrow. It should be easy to demonstrate night both with, and without a full moon by playing around with the time.

Get yourself ReShade and take full control of the sims lighting, colour temperatures, vibrance, levels and sharpness. My nights are pretty dark

C’mon guys…

Its the same every full moon: “Ground is too bright again!!”. 29d later(ie. next full moon): same/similar threads will reappear…

The moon is a very strong light source, and will clearly light up ground and clouds when 50%+.

Now it is 99,5% full.

Msfs does simulate differential moon lighting according to moon phase. So no: it should NOT be pitch black when the moon is 50%+.

You can clearly see the ground in these conditions, even to the point where NVG etc are unneccessary.

Example of 80% moon:

Really just walk outside on a full moon night in a dark place.

just staring at a screen can get you disconnected from reality …

The sim, since 2020, has always simulated phases of the moon. It even does eclipses, though I could never get a total solar eclipse.

Here I am somewhere in the KSA, moon at the top.

Fast forward to November 14th. It also simulates correctly based on your latitude.

And now to the 15th, and dark ground.

Terrible compression on the forums for this, but the ground is dark. On the 18th we get a lovely crescent.

Will check again later this month.
