Ground textures are blurry, LOD System is too aggressive, and Loss of Detail in 2024 - streamed scenery AND CLOUDS looks worse than 2020

If they’d talk a bit, that would clear up quite a few things here. Anyone know when the next official livestream is?

Another thing that came to mind, are people only seeing this when using complex airliners and scenery? If you have the issue then fly the same or a different say non PG area in a stock Asobo GA plane, does the issue still show? If not then it would indicate that may be the dynamic settings feature of the sim (which is not an option to turn off on Xbox like it is on pc) trying to handle the load? I do believe people have seen this even on pc with this setting off however..

Imagine that you had bought many expensive aircraft with very good modelling, texture, and systems, then you fly them to 30000ft just to see that everything below you is blurry mess. Then on the ground you also have GSX and many 3rd party airports.

At least I have only bought addons that backwards compatible with 2020 so I can just use them beautifully on my good old 2020 and totally forget about 2024. Sure 2024 is much better than 2020 below 2000ft, but I rarely fly that low.

What I can’t understand is addon developers seem don’t care much about current state of 2024 and keep releasing 2024 only addons.

Well. To me this proves that the people who complain here, on this forum, about the state of the sim are a fraction of the total simmer base. And that there are many, many more people happily navigating the skies on all the different platforms, and wanting to touch op an already very complete out of the box sim even more.

:smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

It could be. There are also (many) users who don’t notice the issue or prefer don’t care much about it.

Anything new ? :person_shrugging::pensive_face:

As Yoda said “there is another”..

A solution long loved by the community (MSFS and xplane) has in the past week and after many months of dev and engagement tried its best to alleviate the utter failing of Asobo on this. Only for the 2024 sim at this point. It’s still no 512x512 aerials that MSFS 2020 supported for years until Asobo stripped it from us in su16 of the 2020 sim (and xplane still supports), but one must appreciate that while Asobo lets the visuals of the sim degrade it’s seems by the day at this point that 3rd party devs are trying their best to move us forward (or at least to recover from the su16 order of magnitude downgrade that Asobo gave us).

I was stoked to see this though I’m wondering what is actually going on in the background to provide better visuals

I actually reached out to him this week with that question, and while tight lipped on details understandably, he did confirm it is not due to Asobo bringing native 512x512 into the 2024 sim. It is rendering more aerial tiles using ai to try and upscale the output it would seem but still within the confines of 256x256. It does not remove overlays or other fakery that so encompasses 2024 but is an improvement certainly.

However I do have more details. In the months of deafening silence by Asobo after su16, I did email with him frequently trying to see if anything we could do. So from a technical perspective:

2024 does support and consume 512x512 aerials, however through the render pipe where it applies overlays etc what is finally rendered is downscaled to 256x256 anyway.

By contrast, 2020 however as of su16 has what seems to be an intentional hard block of 512x512 applied, so it can’t consume these at all. This was interesting as I had thought (or hoped) that su16 may have been an accidental side effect of aligning aerials or code with 2024, but as you can see it is not.

Therefore and of course speculation only as Asobo have left the community to do nothing else for the past year, that the removal of 512x512 in the prior sim was an intentional action to take away the huge visual advantage it had for aerials when compared with 2024, one must assume to apply a forceful approach to ‘encourage’ users to move to the new sim anyway..

In marketing circles I believe they call that nudging.

A lot of people will just “vote with their feet” and move on…

If people decided to move on be because of terrain detail I have some bad news for them.

Because many people (including myself) very much enjoy MSFS 2024 and will buy addons.

some TLOD 500 beauty at 5000ft  all that’s left is a tiny circle around the plane, the rest is just texture mush.

others just do it better, yes it’s at a lower altitude, still scenery and vegetation as far as there’s groundtexture. DOESN’T need to run on very old console hardware:

Here is what I see in MSFS 2024 with TLOD set to 400 at 5000ft. It was just a random spot, somewhere over England. But if you provide precise GPS coordinates, we could compare our visuals.

I’ve long suspected that some users experience issues with textures failing to load or taking a long time to load; this would be a chance to verify that—provided we use the same TLOD setting, of course.

Of course, you have to take into account the forum’s image compression, which causes some degradation. On screen, it doesn’t look blurry to me.

I thought I would post a couple of my own screen shots over England. No complaints here.

The fact that you can use the drone camera, start at ground level, move up 5,000 ft and then come back down, and watch the texture resolution and TLOD change with your altitude tells me this is not a bandwidth issue. And reading through everything on this forum about what FS2020 and now FS2024, used to look like compared to what we are getting today, with the visual quality being so heavily and seemingly deliberately degraded shouldn’t that be the second clue as to what is actually going on? Rather than Asobo/MS putting an end to all the speculation with some actual facts, they keep doing these “developer streams” that address little to nothing of the topics being raised repeatedly on the forums. At this point, the question isn’t whether people are noticing something. The question is why Asobo/MS won’t simply explain what is actually happening.

That literally does not look any better than the Series X version on a decent TV. Are the visual regressing again, just like with 2020?
