Ground textures are blurry, LOD System is too aggressive, and Loss of Detail in 2024 - streamed scenery looks worse than 2020

@CONVEEN What error list can I view? How and where can I view it?

When you using SU2 Beta, you can write your impressions or bugs in Beta Forum. This what I mean.

yeah i noticed that too. Also this is what Fort Lauderdale and key west look like for me haha.

I’m still seeing blurry textures in SU2 Beta.

The high res textures are not loading quick/far out enough.

In Beta 2 it’s ridiculous bad on Xbox Series S. Beta 1 it was as good as it can be on Xbox but now the terrain popping just in front of the nose.

Exactly the same issue on X Box X.

Did a flight around Seattle and noticed many areas (like southwest of Tacoma) where photogrammetry ā€œtreesā€ co-exist with the new 3D trees, which can’t be good for memory usage. Photogrammetry is messed up in general like at Black Diamond airport 95WA, which is inaccessible due to invasive photogrammetry and where the sim tried to give me a First Flight mission…instant abort.

My 22 year old original XBox games have graphics that look better than some of these blurry runways in beta 1.4.9 around Corpus Christi! The XBox Series X is a supercomputer compared to the original XBox. The graphics in 2024 are broken in this release around the Corpus Christi area.

yeah and maybe placebo but it feels like the minecraft textures are even worse in su2 idk

I wanted to record some footage that shows how the sim adjusts the texture quality based on distance, using the drone camera as a way of putting some distance between me, and the plane, and then returning to that spot very quickly.

The video shows the quick transition from a very low LOD level to the highest level in a second or two, which is quicker than is necessary when flying the plane normally. But it would be nice to see the offscreen terrain caching perhaps stop that from happening at all. I have mine set to Ultra, and it seems to make no difference in this scenario. Perhaps it really is in the cache, but still only displays the terrain at the correct LOD level based on distance from it?

I should probably add here that I don’t think there is anything wrong in the footage below. I’m not seeing blurry terrain in the vicinity of the camera, and the transition from low to high LOD is acceptable because you are never going to be travelling as fast as when the drone camera resets to its home position, so you will never see that jump from low to high LOD. It would be more gradual as you approach.

wow i can never get it to look anywhere near that good. maybe because your at lower altitude? what is your TLOD?

Half a year after release and still no sharp textures…
Must be a joke.

I have posted this on another post talking about lights but this seems to be more appropriate. Not sure how this is ok, such a regression that makes the sim a blurry mess - you can’t read the aircraft type on the floor at close range when parking…

Voted as totally agree. I have both sims installed and there is no doubt at all that 2020 looks way, way better in this regard. 2024 offers wonderful aircraft models, but the landscape is terrible and has copious amounts of what looks like really bad film grain (I personally loath film grain).

I’ve given up and lost hope on the whole LOD issue, almost 5 months later and this issue is still being discussed after it was supposedly fixed in the SU2 beta.

Here is more evidence, you can’t even read the writing on the ground textures:

Which airport is that?

I’d really love to be flying in MSFS 2024, but I’m stuck on 2020 because the textures are just so bad. Even at FL280 over the mountains, all I see are blurry hilltops and textures popping in. And when they finally do load, it still looks like something out of the FSX days.

Yet not to mention I get OBS to loss it’s bitrate and drops like a dog, and I have 500mb speeds.

What I can’t work out is why some get it bad and others have no proplems? with there textures

This is what I get when I do pretty much any flight to any destination, everything is great on departure then through TOD the scenery never loads and you can barely see or find the airport.

How this is acceptable I don’t know, I don’t remember having this issue at initial sim release, but if I read correctly somewhere they turned some LOD setting down to fix other loading issues.

Total shame, half the planes don’t work, neither does the scenery, getting robbed by Microsoft and Asobo for the aviator edition it feels like.

Maybe we will have a functioning sim but Sim update X
