I love how this variant is furnished like a camper or a motorhome. That’s exactly how I’d do it if I privately owned a plane this size.
■■■■ straight - oh to be a millionaire!
If starting from full fuel, or at least full enough you’ve got full aux tanks and something in the floats, would you recommend this approach in general or only if you’re trying to empty the float tanks as fast as possible for some reason?
I tend to not touch the fuel selectors and transfer from the floats first and then the aux(I don’t like glass cockpits so it was actually news to me when the long range variant showed up that the other variant didn’t have aux tanks already). The pumps are slow but they always catch up eventually at cruise
@QueazyTable959 Yup, your instincts are correct on how to manage the fuel. The general idea is to avoid using the fuel selectors unless you really need to, since in the real world they are a single point of failure component. If one of the selectors wears out or breaks you could lose an engine.
The normal procedure is to do all phases of flight with selectors on “main tanks”, and turn on the transfer pumps once you’re above 1000 feet. In a normal flight with normal cruise speeds the transfer pumps will replenish the main tanks pretty quickly after leveling off, and then keep them full for the rest of the flight.
The only real non-emergency case I can think of where you’d want to empty the float tanks as quickly as possible is if you realize your destination’s water landing area has bad weather and a lot of chop incoming, and you want the floats empty by arrival time to reduce stress on the wings during landing.
Thanks for the info! I havent been paying much attention to the fuel mixture since the fuels all free and the capacity is huge. When they eventually let the Albatross into career mode it will be more consequential to me!
Now all thats needed is a Hemisphere Dancer livery, so that i can live out my Buffett/airplane dreams!
Love it!
I know what I’m doing all weekend!
So instead of actually switching fuel tanks, you just pump fuel from the auxiliary tanks to feed into the main tanks? Is that right?
Can you tell it’s been a minute since I read the manual?
@FndrStrat06 Yup, that’s exactly right. Start by pumping float tanks to main and then external tanks to main (if fitted), once the floats are empty.
@zac0006 I hear you, hehe. If you really want a shock take up the G-111 and run it to max speed at sea level, full throttle with full rich mixture, and check the Digiflo fuel meter. It’ll probably be in the high 330 gallon per hour range, which at today’s prices would be ~$2000-2500 USD per hour.
If you need to do a max range oceanic flight (~1500nm w/o tanks and 2300nm with) you’ll want to aim for 12000 - 16000 feet of alt depending on weight, 1800 rpm, 30" manifold, and lean the engines to the point they nearly quit. That configuration should net you around 120 knots indicated and 115 gallons per hour total flow. Then get some coffee… a lot of coffee really… and a good book. You’ll be up there awhile!
I just absolutely love the Albatross it’s a joy to fly in VR! I also would love a camper type interior so I can tour the world in it. Thanks for making such a beauty.
@sazzle Thanks very much, I’m glad you’re enjoying it. VR is the only way I fly, so it’s very important to me that everything work well in that mode. Pancake is fine for developing and testing (and breakfast), but for actual flying… there’s just no going back from VR.
Nice to see the new anchor working as well in your shot.
Cheers.
One of if not the best plane in FS24’, just wish there was a paint kit so repainters can get going on the many repaints this bird will have
I’m not a repainter but when that kit comes out, Myers Manx Airways pretty please!!! The guy behind the Myers Manx reboot(yes, the beach buggies. You can buy a new one again now) flies one and it’s awesome.
Fantastic aircraft, really good job!
Absolutely awesome! Love the RCAF paint.
Wonderful job, Mike. And I really appreciate how well it supports VR.
I was finally able to get the Albatross from the marketplace. Great airplane so far, I love it! Super fun to fly and super cool interior details. I’m surprised to see that there is already a livery available on flightsim.to; I thought it was not possible yet with encrypted aircraft by default. I’m now planning to do a world tour with it; only water take-offs and landings!
One thing I have not figured out: someone knows if it’s possible to switch off the passengers’ lights in the back of the airplane? Taking off at night is a bit annoying with bright lights over-illuminating the cabin.
I would also echo some other comments about the sounds though. I feel like the sounds are actually good, but there is definitely a volume issue. Other aircraft have some interior soundproofing, while in the external view, especially facing the engines, things are very loud. On the Albatross, the external view sounds are super low volume, actually lower than from inside the cabin, which makes everything sound a bit off.
Another small nitpick is that I’d love to get the G111 interior livery option with the HU-16 cockpit. I prefer an analog cockpit, but I love the camper van feel of the G111 passenger interior livery.
But in any case, awesome aircraft!
@BrettMercier Thank you very much for your great feedback, and good luck on your world tour!
Absolutely, you can switch off the cabin lights in each variant.
On the HU-16 the cabin light switch is on the electrical panel behind the left wheel well…
On the G-111 the switch is next to the main door, fuselage aft, left side…
The G-111 also has individual light switches for each passenger, on the fuselage walls next to each seat.
The HU-16s do have significantly less sound insulation than the G-111s, since they were not designed for passenger transport. but I will pass on your comments to MS’ audio team. Audio is the only part of the plane I don’t normally work on.
Major interior alterations are probably not in the cards, given that they are extremely time consuming to do, but I will add your request to the wish list.
Another update will be coming though, fixing a number of minor remaining issues, and with a couple of small improvements.
Thanks again, and happy flying!
I’ve also just got access to this aircraft as the Marketplace has now opened, and it is living up to all the praise it has received here (especially at the price of just $A21.50). Well done!
If you are talking to MS about the sound: would it be possible please to have the engine noise increase when you open the cockpit window? Most aircraft modelled in the sim now have that feature - using WWISE or something, I think?
@cdsolo Thank you very much!
All of the audio in the plane was done through WWISE and It does actually have increased engine and wind sound with the windows open, but the bump in volume is subtle, at first anyway. There is an odd issue in the sim where if you open the windows, then go to an external view, then go back into the interior, the exterior sound factor increases. It’s quite noticeable. Opening and closing the windows then has a more significant effect.
Thanks again!
Cheers!
