Grumman Albatross HU-16/G111 Thread

Not at sea - that was the runway at OMRK

Phew!

That I’ve had to do before… A little scary, but not bad.

Its definitely not fixed in the 408.

I’ve flown the HU-16 version with the 406 the last two days and haven’t run into that issue.

EDIT: I should have remembered to note that I’m on the current SU3 Beta, if that makes any difference.

Finished my east coast tour this afternoon by landing in the water just off the east end of Key West Naval Air Station (or whatever it’s called these days). Man, there’s so much to love about this plane.

And I should have clarified that I meant the G1000 in the Cessna 408 wich has the same issue that is not fixed. My bad.

So is instrument backlighting broken in the current SU3 Beta, or have I missed a switch somewhere?

Lighting in general is kind of borked.

I’ve flown the Albatross at night before and don’t remember this being an issue. The lighting also looks nothing like the image in the manual so something is busted in the SU3 Beta. I’ve created a bug report.

I’m not in the beta, but I definitely have run into listing issues in SU2, and not just in the Albatross.

You could be seeing an Albatross issue though, I can’t speak to SU3.

Sim update 2 broke almost all of the instrument lights in the HU-16 unfortunately. I’ve implemented a workaround though and restored them for the next update.

Cheers.

Is there a Simbrief profile for this wonderful bird??

I would like that as well! I remember someone worked on a Little Navmap profile in this thread before, but for SimBrief, I can’t find any right now.

Edit: here is the Navmap profile: https://forums.flightsimulator.com/uploads/short-url/szJWEfPZcTO9up9dlv8kYwQFsjV.lnmperf

So I have another fun little preview for you all, but this time a screenshot just won’t cut it.

I’ve been working on some new water effects, both on the exterior and for the interior. You can also see the water depth fix Asobo added in action, finally allowing for proper beaching in amphibians, plus the new G-111 livery.

These improvements will be included in the second Albatross update, but as it’s still going through testing it’s not clear yet if the update (v2.2.1 currently) will ship with the Sim Update 3 public release, or sometime afterwards. I think it will likely be afterwards, but one can hope.

Anyway, this demonstration is kind of at the upper limit of what the Albatross can handle in water operations: Self launching from a beach into a rough sea, with very heavy crosswind, and high gross weight, but she’s a tough old bird!

Launching into calm water gives a much smoother experience, but maybe isn’t as fun? Hope you like it.

Cheers!

Agreed - great effect in the windshield. Watching the aircraft bounce during the take-off run makes me wonder if, in real life, there were extra-thick seat cushions stowed onboard for passengers & crew for such situations? :slightly_smiling_face:

Holy heck, I love this plane.

How’s that for a water landing.

Absolutely lovely!!! It would be even better tough when the water would keep on the glas…looks very dry soon after.

Realism is great dipping in and out of those waves. I was just waiting for a splash in the face when the window opened :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

That’s probably the Little Navmap profile I made. I would love to try my hand at a Simbrief profile if there was a way for end users to do it. I tried to create one using a new DC-3 “airframe” but I felt there really weren’t enough options there to work with so I gave up on it.
