Grumman Albatross HU-16/G111 Thread

You will actually be able to do exactly that when the next update is released (with or shortly after Sim Update 3). There will be an option on the clipboard (next to the pilot’s seat) to turn off the modern avionics and GPS and replace them with dual comm / nav radios and an ADF radio. This will be an option for the HU-16 only though, the G-111 will retain its modern avionics.

The DC-6 might be complex system wise, but it’s one of the easiest on the frames I’ve encountered. I think it’s partly because of the low resolution textures (take a look at the cabin).

Should be able to remove the GPS in the G-111 and fly blind  (I’m joking)
Really looking forward to the next update

Can be seen at the Pacific Coast Museum.

Now there’s something I need to see with my own eyes at some point. I grew up roughly 10-15 miles from that museum… can’t recall if I ever went to it though.

A Grumman HU-16B Albatross (foreground) is accompanied by two HU-16Cs over Lake Conroe in Texas. The Albatross was designed to meet a U.S. Navy requirement for an amphibious utility aircraft that could also operate from snow and ice with skis. In 1955, Grumman developed an improved variant (16B) with a 16.5-foot increase in wingspan and larger aileron and tail surfaces. A Navy version, the 16C, operated as a search-and-rescue aircraft.

If you’re ever visiting Rome, I’d suggest a day trip up north to visit the amazing Italian Air Force Museum. Along with a ton of cool Italian planes, there’s a nice HU-16 right next to Lake Bracciano.

It may not be totally realistic but my 2 cents… I have physical G1000 panels in my home cockpit and I am always looking for G1000 planes to fly in the sim.. not many sea plane options with that and so thats one thing that won me over to this plane.

My only wish is that there was a G1000 version with the nose window cuz that’s pretty cool.

See at The Strategic Air Command & Aerospace Museum
The Museum’s HU-16B, S/N 51-0006 was manufactured as an SA-16A by Grumman in Bethpage, New York, and delivered to the USAF on September 7, 1951.

Ooh, and that one is on fs.to too Grumman G-111 N7026C Tri-State Warbird Museum for Microsoft Flight Simulator | MSFS

I see the one in fs.to but the picture above is goldish and the fs.to looks silver/grey. Is this just the photo representing it wrong in the one above where she is actually flying? The tail no is the same. Did they change the colour at some point?

I think it’s just the lighting in the photo.

Yeah I think that’s just sunrise/sunset/golden hour type stuff happening with the lighting.
