Chance of getting the first installment of updates sooner? Please.
The Turkey Day holiday will be here
Mike…loving the HU-16/G-111-- it is my absolute favorite airplane in the sim. REALLY hoping the “Matte black radome HU-16 variant” moves off the wishlist soon onto the update list-- since 98% of HU-16s have that nose vs. the “one-off” clear bubble civilian nose (would LOVE to also see you model the even more bulbous SHU-16 ASW nose variant…but I realize that probably would have a more limited appeal). Also…a layered paintkit would be wonderful…I’m certain the community has a TON of military repaints they would do IF we could get the “Matte black radome HU-16 variant” (Even in the best scenario, I suspect you’d only want to do a limited number of military schemes…and there are SO many out there waiting to be done). Kent
Had to look this up as I was expecting a monstrosity like the Boeing EC-135 Droop Snoot but it ain’t that bad actually. Looks kinda cute.
And check out this absolute filth I found whilst looking up the ASW variant:
Yep…it is kinda cute. It would be great to also have the deployable MAD boom like in the picture for the ASW variant…but that is a bridge waaaay too far. At this point, I’d be happy with a Black matte thimble nose for the military variant and a paint kit. I am utterly smitten and obsessed with Mike’s MSFS 2024 creation…LOVE this airplane. It is-- BY FAR…my favorite in the sim.
It’s really great to see at least one new aircraft in MSFS 2024, aside from the Airbuses, that is not hopelessly broken or missing most of its key features. And also kudos to @Ramasurinen for hopping in here and providing quick status updates on planned fixes for the issues that it does have, thereby proving that he cares how the aircraft behaves in-sim, which very much seems to be the minority position among the developers who have created the default/premium/deluxe aircraft.
As a long time flying boat fan, I don’t know what took me so long but I finally took this one out for a quick spin around Honolulu this afternoon. Wow, what a great experience. Thanks for bringing such a great plane to the sim!
Wait, what?!? That’s fantastic! Some of us have been asking for that very thing since the first floatplanes were added to the sim. I flew the BigRadials Goose a LOT when it was first released and desperately wished we could spawn anywhere we liked.
I’m with ya…really scratching my head over that omission…but hey-- the developer has it on their “wishlist”…so hopefully it will be included in an update soon.
Finally got a chance to try out this beauty tonight. Love it! My new favorite floatplane, and wow it’s so much easier to start flights from the water now. Going to be doing a lot of coastline exploring in FS24!
Am I hearing what sounds like a looping sound file of an engine startup, though? It’s most noticeable if I start on the water, ready for takeoff, and look over my left shoulder out the window. Sort of a clicking sound followed by cylinders firing, and it never stops looping thoughout the flight Anybody else noticed this?
Did your starter disengage?
Ugh - my fault. I keep forgetting that every time I enter a new plane, the controls default to a default profile, and not the one I’ve set up for other planes. Turns out my Bravo was using its default profile which had the starter continuously engaging! Thanks for the hint that helped me figure it out.
Just wanted to stop in and thank you for making this plane to this level! I’ve wanted a good Albatross in sim for many years and this is really Impressive! Love the detailing like distortion on the cockpit glass and the different interiors and cockpits… Love the paint schemes on the G111 especially! Really really nice work!
Now all we need is the very very sexy turbine Mallard!
Was this mentioned already?
On the AP the tooltip of the ARM button is “Vertical Speed” and pressing the button activates the correct AP functions but doesn’t display this on the display. However, the aircraft will level off at the set speed and the AP switches to ALT mode.
When I saw prior to release that this would be made by Mike Johnson, it immediately became my most anticipated aircraft for 2024, because the S.55 was the highest quality local legend / famous flyer by far.
By the way, why in the aircraft selection screen are the name of other devs shown (like PC-24 - Microsoft/Carenado) but this aircraft is only attributed to Microsoft?
Too bad they didn’t paint it red
As Mike has noted, there’s still a bunch of bugs regarding water operations, but, as you can see, it does work. Lot’s of landing gear issues. Somehow, they didn’t account for that water is not land for the amphibious planes, so the wheels and gear stuff is a bit broken in dealing with the water.
Hi everyone. I have submitted the first update for the Albatrosses to MS for testing. I’m sure they are extremely busy and working through higher priority items, so please be patient, but it’s in the queue at least.
This first update primarily addresses the most visible bugs. Another will come in a few weeks with some improvements (possibly including a matte black radome version, if I have time to fit it in).
Issues fixed:
-
Landing lights on HU-16 stuck in down position and always illuminated (fixed)
-
Copilot and Passengers not showing up after loading in EFB (partially fixed). Note: this only works with runway start currently. Apron cold and dark starts will not load passengers through EFB at all for some reason (Currently this seems to affect all aircraft, so I think this is an Asobo issue, but I will continue investigating.)
-
Autopilot not holding ALT and VS properly (Quick fix, was a lack of pitch trim authority. Permanent fix in next update.)
-
ATC misidentified the HU16 and G111 as Diamond aircraft (fixed)
-
Window edge blur artifacts (fixed)
-
American flag on starboard side of HU16 vertical tail needs to be flipped (fixed)
-
HU16 pylon water effects misplaced (fixed)
-
G-111, G1000 CDI nav source, frequency swap, and lighting bugs (fixed)
-
You can now “stand up” in the nose hatch opening on both aircraft
-
Minor improvements to wake effects on both
There is one new minor issue caused by this update unfortunately. I have started moving the aircraft into the new modular simobject system, which has performance and upgrade benefits in the long term, but there are currently a few global LOD issues with that system, and so you may see some window flickering at certain angles in exterior views. Asobo is aware of them.
@kaha300d Thank you for the heads up on the autopilot tooltip. I will have a look at that.
@ThatCFIGuy @GregP7617 @ACEagle6994 @DrVenkman3876 Thank you all for your very kind words. I really really appreciate it, and am very happy you’re enjoying the planes.
Thanks again everyone!
Cheers,
-Mike

Nasty weather moving in.
Happy MSFS 2024 Flying this holiday!
The startup and shutdown sounds could be improved, as far as what’s actually happening with the motor. The starter and startup sounds don’t always connect.
But otherwise, I think it sounds great. Sounds exactly like a twin radial aircraft. It could use some sounds for the prop transition going into reverse.
