📌Gung-Ho In Idaho - Gunpilot's Challenging Flights

Welcome to the 192nd flight event with Gunpilot and a whole bunch of other like-minded sim pilots in MSFS 2024. If you have just discovered these flight events for the first time, welcome aboard and you will be made to feel very much at home with the rest of the pilots on the flight.

The only request we make is that you arrive on the tarmac in the aircraft designated for the flight (and if the aircraft is one you have not flown before, take a few minutes to acquaint yourself with the aircraft flight characteristics prior to dropping in onto the rwy at the start of the event). Join in the banter on the supplied COMMS RADIO which can be found in Gunpilot’s Discord server (click on this link to take you directly to Gunpilot’s server GUNPILOT’s Server ).

This weeks flight details:

In the rugged heart of Idaho’s backcountry, a team of intrepid aviators pushed the limits of their Aero Vodochody L-39 Albatros jets, threading their way through deep river gorges and shadowy, low-hanging clouds. The vibrant paint schemes of their sleek jets—crimson, sapphire, and sunburst yellow—flashed like streaks of lightning against the muted tones of the alpine autumn landscape. Snow patches cling stubbornly to steep slopes, while intermittent rain showers threaten obscuring the aviators’ view of the treacherous terrain. As they approached the first dirt airstrip, nestled precariously beside a winding river, the challenge of short-field landings loomed large. But the real thrill is not just contained to landing the jet: touch-and-go maneuvers demanded pinpoint precision, and a quick jaunt under a low-lying bridge leaves no margin for error. Each pilot’s focus must be absolute, their nerves of steel tested by the unforgiving terrain.

Flying these agile jets at speeds exceeding 400 knots requires not only mastery of the controls but also an almost preternatural sense of navigation through the labyrinthine valleys. Steep terrain obscured critical landmarks, forcing the aviators to rely on their sharp wits, cockpit maps, and swift reflexes to find the next airstrip. The unforgiving geography means every descent into a narrow canyon is a calculated risk, balancing the jet’s formidable power with finesse to avoid overshooting the strip—or worse, the ridges beyond. Aerobatic loops and rolls between landings add to the adrenaline rush, as pilots hone their skills while dodging turbulence spilling off towering peaks. This is not a game for the faint-hearted; it demands not only technical skill but also a delicate touch to “baby” these high-performance jets into—and out of—challenging airstrips that seem designed to test the very limits of human and machine.

We will be flying this event in the Aero Vodochody L-39 Albatros jet

Special Note:

Ensure you have spoiler mapped as without this it will be near on impossible to slow down your jet on approach

*Again, a packaged up WEATHER file has been developed and included along with the flight plan, negating any need for anyone to dial in weather settings, as well as ensuring that all pilots are experiencing exactly the same weather conditions. The Weather Preset file is located in #gunpilots-events (click this link GUNPILOT’s Server ) to be taken there. Load this file directly into the Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 directory on your PC in the PRESETS folder which is located within the WEATHER folder in the aforementioned MSFS2024 directory
