Gunpilot's Challenging Flights - African Touch & Go Safari

Welcome to the 23rd flight event in the Gunpilot’s Challenging Flights adventure series. This challenging flight event is located in South Africa, and is again guaranteed to give you more of the heart pounding and sweaty palms experience that you have come to expect from Gunpilot’s flight events.

This Touch & Go Safari has been planned, and will be led by, me, Tolstoy! It is my pleasure to be the Guest Host for this event on Gunpilot’s discord channel.

We begin our flight in Graskop, a popular spot where tourists enjoy scenic views. We then make our way to the Blyde River Canyon, and eventually to a mountain plateau overlooking the transvaal. It is there our safari begins, through private game reserves adjacent to South Africa’s Kruger National Park.

Midway through our safari, a surprise is in store as we investigate an area just outside of the park boundary. Then, a wonderfully wet river run allows us to wash the dust off our wheels. They won’t stay clean long though, as next we set up for the fastest paced flurries of touch and goes yet! With an average high temperature of over 30 degrees Celsius, that will likely be the only flurry this area has ever seen! Our journey ends at the Hippo Pools Airport. With a name like that, it deserves to be the grand finale!!!

This event will be fast paced – there is a lot of ground to cover and a lot of sights to see! We will make full stop landings when required, including brief pauses periodically so that we may regroup and continue onward all together. However, as the title suggests, the majority of our arrivals to off airport sites and local air strips, will be touch and goes!

When: Sunday 25th April @ 2300 UTC

Where: South Africa

Flight Duration: Approx 3hrs (depending on numbers attending)

Aircraft: Cessna Grand Caravan (as always as flight planned around Caravan performance)

Server: SOUTH EAST ASIA

Discord Server: https://discord.gg/rpsHtJXy74 1 (click on “#guest-events”)

Voice Chat accessed by clicking on Comms Radio

Graksop Airport (FUHC) to Hippo Pools (FAHY).pln (15.5 KB)

RECOMMENDATIONS:

Cessna Caravan as all landing and other challenges built into flight are
tailored for this aircraft specifically

Turn Damage mode off as you will most likely suffer at least hard
landings if not full on crashes

Bring plenty of Duc Tape for running repairs

Crash Helmets are optional, Prayers are advisable

Embrace “SLEW” as it will be your friend by the end of the flight

Practicing to make Caravan landing approaches at IAS of between 40-50knts max will see you nailing difficult landings with ease and precision.

Make it easy on yourself to navigate around the route and accurately pinpoint the exact landing areas by downloading and using the free “LittleNavMap” s/w you can get on the web - you will never open the standard sim VFR Map again once you have tried this fantastic app that integrates seamlessly with MSFS2020.

This looks like a new and interesting kind of challenge. I think I may join you for the flight.
Toodles, Tolly.

Hi CharlieFox. It would be great to have you along.
You may not need Duc Tape or a crash helmet on this flight, but you will be kept busy!!!

Hello everyone! The Touch and Go Safari will begin in about 4 hours (2300 UTC).

Due to the ongoing issues which cause severe stuttering during multiplayer flights, this is a reminder to please only use a DEFAULT LIVERY (Kenmore, Emerald, Global are fine).

Thanks!

I should clarify, that the severe stuttering does not just occur during multiplayer flights.

One could be flying merrily along on a solo flight, but if a ‘stranger’ on the same server and in the same aircraft type as you, has an add on livery, you can then suffer the stuttering. In that case, you can switch servers.

Just trying to keep all the info accurate!
Happy landings!!!
