Gunpilot's Challenging Flights - HIGHLAND FLING

Welcome to the 54th flight event in the Gunpilot’s Challenging Flights adventure series. This challenging flights event will be in the Papua New Guinea Highlands , and is again guaranteed to give you more of the heart pounding and sweaty palms experience that you have come to expect from Gunpilot’s flight events.

This flight will have us flying through the mountainous jungle terrain of eastern PNG, pitting our flying skills in our trusty Grand Caravans against the hazardous mountain and bush airstrips found in
this region. We will also be flying into abandoned bush strips and of course it would not be a challenging flight without the off field bush landings in jungle clad mountains and ravines.

As if landing our aircraft in this demanding terrain is not enough, we will be really throwing our planes around in the air in aerobatic manoeuvres, deliberately putting our planes into full on stalls and then trying to recover, some “Yank & Bank” flying and, of course, a gliding challenge or two along the way. By the end of the flight you will have flung your aircraft around so much during the flight (hence the event name Highland Fling) that you may be reaching for the sick bags at the end of the flight.

Hopefully again we may be blessed with Captain Wozee’s presence and he no doubt will be able to give us some first hand flying commentary along the way…always good to hear about Wozee’s time and experiences in PNG in his early flying career.

RECOMMENDATIONS
Cessna Caravan as all landing and other challenges built into flight are
tailored for this aircraft specifically

Turn Damage mode off as you will most likely suffer at least hard
landings if not full on crashes

Bring plenty of Duc Tape for running repairs

Crash Helmets are optional, Prayers are advisable

Embrace “SLEW” as it will be your friend by the end of the flight

Practicing to make Caravan landing approaches at IAS of between 40-50knts max will see you nailing difficult landings with ease and precision.

Make it easy on yourself to navigate around the route and accurately pinpoint the exact landing areas by downloading and using the free “LittleNavMap” s/w you can get on the web - you will never open the standard sim VFR Map again once you have tried this fantastic app that integrates seamlessly with MSFS2020.
