Has MSFS gotten better at reporting CTDs yet?

As in, goes it provide more information, or does it just close the application and call it a day.

Got a CTD today 1.5 hrs into a 3 hr flight. Wasn’t even touching the computer at the time.

Lots of CTD’s being reported the last couple of days.
It seems to connected to the servers being down.
I would wait until things are back up and running before I got too concerned, and I wouldn’t start adjusting any settings just yet.

I’ve been convinced this is the source of many CTDs for months now from my troubleshooting. It’s why CTDs seem to come and go mysteriously without warning. I could run for days on end without crashes, then suddenly, without any changes to my system, I’d be randomly plagued with CTD after CTD without explanation. And logs would show the crash came from either null or -1 values.

I suspect the culprit is error handling code (or lack thereof) in the sim that can’t handle invalid, malformed, or null responses received from the servers, tried to process the data anyway, and then crashes the sim.

Sort of same experience, yes. I did a few flights, one of which was 10 hours in total in the end, without hitch. Today, 1.5 hours in, and I come back to a desktop staring at me.

Well, thank you. Lol.

There’s some talk that it could be due to the weather server issues.

Today I started two flights with weather presets.
Ctd’s the two flights in cockpit prep phase.

I’ve been using the sim constantly since launch and had been lucky to escape the worst of the CTDs until the big Sim Update 5 performance improvement came out, which seemed to greatly impact stability.

I’ve had an enforced break from MSFS in Q4 2021 due to house refurb, which limited the time I could use the PC, so I’ve flown sparingly since mid-October, but neither Sim Update 6 nor 7 resolved the issues - if anything, what little I could try of SU6 seemed to make it worse and SU7 followed so quickly that it didn’t seem its brief was to address any of the problems caused by SU5/6.

Since attempting to get back to normal flying hours, I’ve so far done two two-hour flights and failed to complete either of them due to CTDs, even with my community folder emptied out.

In response to the specific subject matter - has MSFS gotten better at reporting them? No. It still just pauses then exits to the desktop.

For the moment, the basic sim is so unstable that I don’t dare use any add-ons (I have dozens of them) - up until now most freezes/CTDs I’ve had have been caused by add-ons. Once the sim is stable again, I’ll add them back in, but an error message would be appreciated so I know which add-on has caused a CTD so I can remove it until a patch is available. I totally understand Asobo not wanting to be wasting its time offering tech support for third-party add-ons, but with people now developing a whole catalogue of them, having to load the sim up 50+ times to find out which one is causing an issue through trial-and-error, all because of the sim’s inability to display an error message, is a waste of my time, too.

I agree that we need much better crash reporting and diagnostics to be better able to track down the causes of CTDs, Maybe a more verbose logging/tracking function that the user can turn on when he/she is having frequent CTDs.

Hello FreedFlyer97231,

i had the self CTD information in the event viewer from Windows.

Can you say please , where was your CTD , land , area and with witch aircraft.
( Payware airports or other payware addons install ? )

My CTD with this error message " KERNELBASE.dll" was in Australia.
My flight was from YBNA to YSSY with A32NX ( V0.7.3).

I have install in Australia payware addons over the marketplace.

-Landmarks Adelaide ( ORBX )
-Cityscape Sydney ( ORBX )
-YPAD-Adeliade ( ImpulseSimulation)
-YSSY Sydney ( Flytampa )
-YBSU SunshineCoast (

try using the experimental… it’s got TCAS now, and LNAV.

The TCAS only works with online traffic such as Vatsim etc, it apparently doesn’t for AIG or sim generated traffic.

In the last couple of days, I had more ctds than in all the last year. Today I couldn´t end any flight! I had for the first time two memory address errors. What is going on with the sim? It should be a source of pleasure not of frustration.

Any particular plane, location?
Did you try with no external sim apps running and an empty community folder?

Just did a flight today, and completed it without crashes, including a go around.
I’ll cautiously say that the server side live weather fix seems to have resolved the issue for me.

Well, still getting CTDs… two today.

and

Bleh…

Have you done a search in here for that code?
It is a rather general fault code with lots of posts on it, but if you filter the responses by date, there are a lot of solutions in the last while that may be relevant to your issue.
