Not logged on for a few days for personal reasons only to just find a update that is 55gb in size and therefore not enough space on my SSD to install it…anyone care to explain what is going on ?
No there is’nt a update.
Check the path for your community directory in the update screen (on the right bottom). Sometimes the sim reset this to the default path and downloads the files all over again…
If so change the download path to the correct (older) one.
I assume your on a PC and not on the x-box.

That seems a likely cause but 55GB would probably be a tiny, if not impossible install size I think.
