Have shorelines always looked this bad?

Recently I’ve been flying down the gulf coast of Florida and what I had expected to be a beautiful flight is just kind of bland, boring, and soulless. This is my first time flying in the sim in Florida but flying along the Lake Michigan shoreline previously in the game I never really thought to myself, wow, this looks terrible. Everything looks like it’s just a big placid lake.

Here’s a bunch of screens from my last couple of flights.

Side note, it’s great to see the Sunshine Skyway Bridge added, too bad the cars drive on and under the water…

They’re a work in progress for sure. The environment team are always updating water masks, but they (I believe) only come with large updates or world updates as they go through a lot. Definitely one to submit to Zendesk to be improved!

Obviously can’t tell in the photos, but I never see any waves coming onshore, just that alone would bring so much more life into the shoreline.

If they have always looked like this, then that’s one thing, just wondering if that is the case or if they have degraded, like some things, since launch.

And regarding the water masks, it would be nice to know when and where these updates are occurring.

Yes, it’s always looked like this except in a handful of special areas where they custom-added “water masking”. You can search for the term “water masking” here on the forums to turn up posts about people being glad it showed up, or mad it went away, in various locations, but I’ve never seen it anywhere I’ve flown, just the generic flat water.
