Hey simmers! I finally did it and decided to buy one of the few, remaining Asus ROG Swift PG27UQ monitors that has 4k, 144hz and HDR 10.
My question to those who use HDR in MSFS 2020 - do you like it? Is HDR done well in the game? I never had owned an HDR monitor (only TVs) so excited to see improvements, besides going from 1440p to 2160p.
More to the point – Do YOU like it … better or worse.
In particular, how does it effect the brightness of the Cockpit panel, as you move your viewpoint up and down, taking in more and less of the outside bright daylight ??
I think it is down to personal preference and the quality of your HDR. I personally hate the over vibrant colors in the flight sim (almost cartoonish). They look great in movies or most video games. They look so unnatural to me in the flight sim. But to be fair, maybe my monitor does not have a great HDR.
The PG27UQ is one of two that is HDR 10 (1000 nits) – Asus discontinued it (it’s stupid expensive, but I got a good deal) because they’re coming out with a new one in 2021 (we assume).
I have the 43 version of that monitor. MSFS in HDR looks great. A monitor can’t replicate the full natural color gamut. HDR can’t either, but it’s a whole lot better.
Judging by other comments, that must be poor HDR support in my monitor then. Probably a fake HDR? I got a Korean monitor based on LG 38" 1600p ultrawide panel. HDR 600 at best.
