Head pitch causes unnatural vertical shift

When playing MSFS in VR, pitching the head up or down causes the whole view to slide vertically much more than it should. Instead of rotating naturally around the eyes, the camera seems to move along the Y-axis, making the cockpit appear to shift up/down. It feels as if the eyes are mounted on a 1-meter stick in front of the face – instead of simply rotating naturally around the eye point. This is especially noticeable in the A320.

I haven´t noticed this in other VR titles yet, so it feels like MSFS is using the wrong pivot point for head rotation. Causes a lot of discomfort to me.

Has anyone else noticed this?

Yes this! And it is the same when rotating the head left/right. The view will unnaturally shift too much. This was a problem in early days of vr with other platforms and titles too. If i remember correctly it was a kind of neck simulation since your eyes are more in front then your pivot point which is the neck. I personally hate this so much but it seems its intended. Hopefully they fix this annoying setting one day.

Good to know i´m not alone. I mean it makes sense to “simulate” this, since it is indeed happening for real but the effect ist just way exagerated and makes me feel sick personally.

What headset are you? Quest 3 for me.

I use the old but still loved valve index. When i am not looking for this it does not really bother me too much any more while flying though. Only when i look close and focus on things. There are a lot more severe vr issues right now to fix first i guess but still an annoyance.

What is funny though is the fact when you focus in rl to this effect it feels exagerated too with objects in close proximity, just tested it. Somehow in VR the brain does not adopt for this in the same way..

Weird as I have never noticed this, I don’t think it’s MSFS. I would actually like some assistance as looking at the floor or ceiling can be tough in VR.

What headsets are you guys using?

When you say you never noticed this. Do you mean you have the same issue?

I’ve never had a problem with this. I’ve also not seen it mentioned by anyone else previously either.

In real life there definitely is a translation of the eyes when turning the head, because it’s rotating around the neck.

Am not a developer, but as far as I can work out no VR implementation should require anything in this respect. It should just happen naturally with the tracking.

I don’t have the issue. But I usually only fly in smaller airplanes.

Most VR titles tend to not require too much looking up/down. Could it be tracking related?

I get something similar to this sometimes when I am using my mouse, the view will shift or if I am using my Xbox controller to shift around the cockpit. If you press Left Shift and space it will reset the view, this happens WAY more frequently with the new release than it did with su2

Yes 100% to do with tracking. Almost as if they did not account for the fact that all the sensors and magic gizmos are all located 2 inches in front of your face instead of “in your eyeballs”.

Now I am not sure whether that’s a Meta or a MSFS issue. I haven’t tried in other games yet but I suspect it’s a Meta thing.
