Headed into Hurricane!

Flying into a hurricane has many fewer implications when you have 3 kt winds

Live weather working well, I see?

LOL… true and to be clear I’m about 70 miles FROM the hurricane… but as I get closer, it’s looking more ominous!

Actually seems to be, outside of the winds… here is my view 20 mins from my original post. And I’m now about 60 miles or more away from the radar indicated storm.

Did this last night with the typhoon off Okinawa departing from Kadena. Visuals and rain are there and the nexrad, vert and horizontal weather shows true but 3 knot wind the whole time flying from edge to edge through the eye.
Did test the icing features, they appear to work visually and on systems. Climbed to get OAT below 0 and after about 2 min pitot froze up an lost all flight info. Turned on pitot heat and after about 30 seconds everything came back. Kept the deice off on engines and wings, after about 5 min had to gradually increase thrust to maintain speed and ap kept dialing in more and more trim. Enabled deice and slowly it came back to normal. Visually it took a while longer to clear. This was in the Cessna Longitude.
Pretty cool experience except for the calm winds.

CAn you start blowing on it please… it’s still heading at us in Galveston/Houston. See bands here in RL so blow it east. Im actually near the Galveston Airport at Scholes. We may go back home a little inland soon in case.

I don’t want to drive across the Causeway in case the winds do pick up.

In all seriousness, I pray you and yours will be safe and can evacuate if possible. It’s already a Cat-3 and could go to Cat-4 which is extremely dangerous. I live in Dallas so praying you’re safe. Hang in there!!

Be safe and careful!

Live stream.

8 might leave galv later if it doesn’t turn sooner. I d9nt like driving over causeway out of island in winds .

Main place I’d 30 miles inland. Seeing bands rl as well.

In wall now, can’t get over so easy tracking core but in the thick wall of it so can’t see even at 20,000 feet.

WIll post eye soon.

I think it will skirt us with western side.

I jsut don’t want a repeat of harvey, it was a little to much to bare with the flooding. Stores were flooded here in Friendswood, I work on island but left before it hit.

THen we flooded here near clear creek bad. All stores were flooded and shut down, so couldn’t shop for a week.

ok maybe little worried now. IF it curves like it suposed then worry abotu friends in Lousianna

THey said it jsut became a cat 4?

THis is havign a bad deja vou for me. Im gonna go blow on it and try to steer it away from land.

Yes. It went from a 2 to a 4 in just 12 hours. :man_facepalming:

Found eye but not well defined. zI is a long trip through the wall until it finally breaks at core.

Use second image where my plane is at to find it at this time. the surrounding wall is very dense. IT take awhile to get through and to center core. Orange area on land is galveston with the orange circle

IT is on map where it shows on live radar

Update. We were seriously sparred in Houston and galveston. Barely wind, on dry side.

Cameron and lake Charles is another story. Hit very hard as of now. Very high winds. Resorts in lock down, all people pulled in side and buildings locked due to debris flying around from outside damage. I had video from a friend before it ended as they lost power then eventually cell phone tower went out.
