The heading bug keeps defaulting to North. Is there a fix for this?
Hi @porterlv. It will help other users consider an answer if you state what addon aircraft you are using. Thanks.
I think it may well be what the sim does by default and I would guess that unless a particular aircraft records persistent data the default action will apply. Even then the third party developer would also likely need to make a point of recording the heading bug position.
What would you like it to default to? Where you left it on your last flight?
Perhaps you are referring to the SET_HDG_BUG command which sets the bug to North. This has been an issue since the beginning. Asobo have indicated that they are fixing it but to date they have not. The SET_HDG_BUG command should set the bug to the current aircraft heading.
Thanks for your inputs. This problem is on all aircraft. I solved it by resetting the defaults on the mouse. I hope this helps anyone that might be experiencing the same problem. Cheers
So what does the heading bug default to now? Thanks.
It sounds like the topic author was originally unable to change the heading bug from its default position at all, because the mouse config was out of date or corrupt. After setting the bindings correctly, it sounds like now they can set the heading bug to a different value for navigation purposes, because the mouse bindings are now correct.
In other words, it was never about the default, but about being unable to change the heading with the mouse? At least that’s what I’m guessing.
Hi, I’m just getting started on MSFS2020 coming from XP11 (which I still fly from time to time). On XP11 you can bind a keystroke to set the heading bug strait in the direction that you fly. I use it at takeoff to set the bug on the runway heading with one touch of my H key. 't Is is something that don’t exists, or I couldn’t find in MSF2020 but is very handy. Is there a way to do this that don’t know about? You know more?
Regards, Eddy
As far as I know, there is still no key-stroke combination that will sync the heading bug to the current heading as there is in X-Plane (and most other Sims). In MSFS what one has to do is use some third party software such as spad.next or FSUIPC to set up a command to manually sync the heading bug to the magnetic course. Strange but true.
Hi, thanks for replying.
I solved the problem by a combined key command Ctrl+ left & right arrow keys for setting the heading bug. Because I try to keep most key commands & yoke-button settings as much as possible as in XP I had to delete a whole lot of standard in-build key commands from MSFS2020. But that’s no problem in my case because most of the original key assignments I don’t use anyway. But I’m fairly new to MSFS2020 so I have to find out a whole lot more, one step at a time. Thanks again for your response, have a nice weekend.
