Heads up on Intel 13th 14th Gen CPUs and DX12

If you do it this way, to need to disable cep apparently, or you get something called “clock stretching”, which is apparently bad for performance?

I don’t really understand it all, but all i can say is that, on the latest asus bios with the 129 microcode… the only way I’ve found to keep all the Intel protections, cep etc, without this “clock stretching” and keeping temps in check is:-

Press f5 to reset

Change to Intel performance

Change llc from 4 to 5

Change svid global core to adaptive mode
Change offset sign to negative
Change offset value to 0.120

Set ia vr voltage limit to 1360.

So far as i know, this should be safe? It’s got Intel limits, 307A/253W/253W/CEP… but the iavr voltage limit stops those massive spikes to 90c+

The negative offset then brings back performance after this ia vr voltage limit is in place

From my little understanding llc5 has less vdroop, meaning overall higher voltages at idle than llc4, but because the voltage curve is flatter, it allows you to push the offset further (i.e. undervolt more).

With these settings, don’t really see spikes even to 80C in flight. Much better.

::EDIT::

just to update, what I’m actually using now is the following setup:-

-F5 to restore defaults
-change to intel performance profile
-enable xmp ii
-keep llc at default 4
-set ia vr voltage limit to 1450
-set speicif p cores all to 53
-set specific e cores all to 41
-set ring max to 45
-set svid global core voltage to adaptive mode to adaptive
-set offset sign to negative
-set offset value to 0.07500

this way temps in general for gaming and in the sim hover around 48-60ish, with occasional dips up to 65ish. the max temp I’ve seen has been 75.

yes, cores and now limited to 5.3Ghz, e cores to 4.1ghz (although they actually usually sit at 4ghz now), ring to 4.5ghz…but in all honesty, it’s made no difference to real world performance or frames per second or any of that stuff…flights are still looking great, flying smooth, all my gear is still working…but it’s no longer hitting crazy temps of 90C+
