A couple of months ago I purchased a Reverb G2. I didn’t actually want to spend 700eur but the Oculus g2 isn’t sold by mainstream outlets in germany due to the Facebook account issue.
With the g2 I have had constant usb connectivity issues which some of you are probably aware of and have actually already sent 2 g2 back before realising this is an AMD motherboard issue. Sadly my manufacturer Dell has gone quiet on the release of the needed Agesa 1.2.0.2 and when I talk with their tech support they don’t understand anything about it. I did manage 2 weeks of use with each of the headsets as only one of my 16 usb ports worked but then they stop altogether. I have pretty much given up hope of using the g2.
I now have an option of getting an Oculus q2. Not sure how if it will work with my FB account registered in germany but maybe I can work around that. With the recent updates of 120hz and airlink, how will this headset perform? Ideally if anyone has experience of both the q2 and g2.
With my fairly powerful computer I found the g2 not that good with msfs. With oxr at 100 and medium in game settings I was getting 20-35fps which to me isn’t good enough. I expect 45 for an enjoyable experience.

Your FPS is normal from what I have seen on many posts with other users running similar hardware. This sim is very demanding for VR and is not optimized by Asobo yet. I have an R11 with a 3090 and 64gb ram so quite similar to your machine but I’m running intel. My FPS are the same as yours and I use the G2. For me, I use reprojection to get FPS up to 60 and it’s very smooth. You may want to try that. I lock the FPS in the NVidia control panel to 20fps, then have the headset software (open Xr developer for the G2) reprojection set to Always On, and it reprojection up to 60fps (I have the headset on 60hz mode). Sorry to hear about the usb problems and that appears to be more common with AMD motherboards/CPUs but also more broadly I have had some usb problems too on my intel machine, but not as many problems as you. I also turn off some of the settings that are CPU intensive as my system tends to hit a Main Thread Limited cpu bottleneck before the 3090 GPU hits it’s peak…so I turn off live weather, turn off live traffic and turn off photogrammetry and turn off multiplayer. I’m running open Xr Developer at 100 render scale and in sim render at 100 as well. I presume you have also read the very helpful posts by Cptlucky8 in his Vr settings and their impacts. Good luck.
Thanks for the reply. I have tried motion projection but all it seems to do is reduce the rps by about 5. Also tried HAGS on but that really has an adverse effect. Cptlucky8 settings guide is superb and was the first thing I read when trying to optimise my system.
The question I am really asking however is what is the quest 2 experience like with a top end pc and airlink compared with a g2 if anyone has experienced both. Or if not the simply is the q2 worth getting? I know it’s not as sharp as the g2 but is it smoother with the lesser demands?
My current Reverb g2 is pretty much dead and i have given up hope of getting back working. It will go back soon as still within the one month return limit. My options are:
wait until Dell sort out thr USB issue and reorder another (4th!) Reverb g2. No idea when this will be or if it will solve the situation.
get an oculus and hope that the germany Facebook thing isn’t an issue and that is doesn’t have the usb issues the g2 has. This is why I ask about the quality of it or will I end up thinking and wishing i still had the g2
wait until something else comes out. Like this crazy sounding decagear one. This is a more risky option as going into the unknown and will require patience as ETA unknown which is something I don’t have in abundance!
So many issues with the configuration for FS with the Quest 2, between Virtual desktop or not, Air link / link configuration and so on.
Each session was totally different.
I’ve found last week a G2 on amazon. de (warehouse “almost new”) for 440Eu.
The G2 was really a pain to set up with the USB issue (not using the latest AGESA for X570), and the only way to make it work was using an USB HUB between the headset and the motherboard! I tried all of my USB plugs and none worked, but now everything is fine with a 9eu USB hub.
With the best bandwidth and quality settings the Quest2 does not match with the quality of the G2.
G2 is much more sharper, and the reading more clear than the Quest 2…
However the Quest 2 is really enjoyable for all other games than FS! wireless game is really good (HL ALYX, Beat saber…)
I tried an external powered USB and an internal Inateck one and neither worked. Also using the USB on my monitor didn’t work.
With G2 nos 2 and 3 the exact same thing happened with them. For 2 weeks they would only work in one USB port all other had error (forgot which) and a full light on the headset psu. Then almost the same duration at 2 weeks roughly the headset is not seen at all and the light is now blinking. First g2 I just sent back straight away as assumed an issue with it, not my brand new computer!
I think I will skip the oculus idea, I think I’d regret it after experiencing the g2. Thanks for you input.
One of Oculus’s requirements is that you must have a Facebook account, it is after all produced by them. Some people may have an issue with being forced to have one, I don’t, I’ve had an account for many years. But German law doesn’t allow this for reasons I am not sure of so none of the major outlets are selling it. So if I want an Oculus I can either get one sent to someone in another country and have them post it to me or buy from a dodgy looking online shop and hope it registers OK with my Facebook account (belive it will but not 100% sure)
