Heavy bugs in VR using XBox controller

Asobo, did You ever try VR longer than 5 minutes?

  • Steering on ground almost impossible:
Pedals keep hanging at 20% or 100% at one side until you release the trigger and trigger it again in the same direction. Start / taxi / landing almost impossible

This has nothing to do with calibration. It is like this in 3 different PCs and 3 different XBox controlers.

  • Ground steering and breaking sometimes only works in the outer view. In cockpit view the pedals do not move (steering or breaking) until changing inner/outer view.

  • Cockpit elements do not work after pressing 4-5 times a controller button
This is happening at least for
    A for throttle
    Up/down for flaps
    B for breaking
    …
So many landings end in a crash because the throttle, flaps or breaking do not respond.
After pressing them 5-6 times suddenly they wake up.
    Or - see next phenomenon:

  • Cockpit elements only work when looking at them in center view.
For example pushing A or B for changing the throttle does not do anything while seeing the throttle lever at a border of the view.
Holding the A button and then moving the head until the throttle lever is in center, the lever moves.
Moving the head more so that the lever is not longer in center, it stops moving.
Flaps and break pedals behave similar - until changing inner / outer view or anything I do not know exactly…

EDIT: It is a known bug, when loooking at a overlay panel joytstick inputs are not working. This also happens with just the quick menu when it is visible.

Who else can report this?

This JUST happened to me today (First time playing after SU8). I ordinarily never have issues. I also noticed that, (along with my X-BOX controller not reacting immediately after returning to cockpit mode from Exterior Mode) my headset started to pick up every other dial in the cockpit which is incredibly annoying and wish there was a way to completely take that Focus/Tracking off, along with the Controller just not responding.

This used to happen to me a few months ago and what’s worse is that this is the only reason why I have a dozen crashes on my record as, the plane will constantly lose control and either hit a pole or a tree…

So I couldn’t take it anymore and decided to finally replace my controller for my old trusty Saitek AV8R-01. Guess what? No issues whatsoever!

I guess, the X-BOX Controller is better off left for playing FPS and Sports games.

So it seems, we can say: XBox Controller and VR does not work because You cannot turn off this focus-by-vr-center funktion.

There is a lot of issues but one of my favourite is that, if you aim with the center of your head (I don’t know why this works but it works) at an instrument, and use the right stick, it’ll move your view (like in 2D) and completely break the center. So pressing SPACE will recenter the view at a wrong angle.

So only 2 people do use a XBox controller with VR in MSFS?
Or everybody else don’t have a problem with it???
Unbelievable…

At the end of 2024 still no solution. Pedals do not move in VR when they are in sight, using a XBox controller in my case.
And almost nobody else except one person does complain about it?

Looking forward if anything is different in MSFS 2024 next week.

Do I expect any changes to MSFS 2020?
Not really. But hope never dies…

I’m having the same issue. I have to be looking directly at the rudder pedals for the triggers to actually control them.

As you’ve said, this makes taxiing, sideslip landings etc impossible while in VR.

It would be great if there were an option to simply use the controller as it works when in non-VR mode.

Hopefully this is fixed in 2024.

If it is as You are desribing, it is not the same problem. It would be the opposite.
When I look at the pedals, they do not move.
But You have to look at them to move them.

Are You using a XBox Controller as well?

I am using an Xbox controller too. For me it seems as though you can’t be looking at anything you can interact with for the rudder pedals to work. Otherwise it tries to do +/- on that control. So when I say I’m looking at the rudder pedals, I’m probably looking at the floor with the VR cursor.

It’s not just the rudder that breaks in this way. Want to use A/B for throttle controls? Gotta look straight out the windshield otherwise those controller buttons are used for interacting with the knob/button in the cockpit your headset is looking at.

Again, everything works as it should with the Xbox controller when not in VR.
