I noticed that in MSFS 2024 in VR, I am very limited by RDR Thread and/or Main thread.
I have a 5800X3D and a 4090. For example when using my Quest 3 with DLSS and Virtual Desktop, especially on anyone of the custom airports (OMDB for example). Interesting thing is, that the limitation goes away when in 2D mode. I am confused since I thought, that CPU bottlenecks mainly come from the amount of objects and render distance (TLOD) and are not sensitive wether you fly in 2D or VR. Seems I am somehow wrong on that…
Whatever I seem to adjust, it hovers around 30 FPS in VR on the Quest 3. It is flyable but my 4090 also hangs arount the 60% load, so there is some headroom to be used…
What are the settings that let me adjust for the low Main Thread or RDR Thread performance?
Thank you guys for any tips or hints on how to optimize this.
PS: It seems to be the same on my OG Crystal over the DP cable…
Hm ok, yeah that would explan the high load on the CPU.
The video that inspired me to dig deep was this one:
He somehow gets Game Times around the 10ms mark, where as I always have slightly over 30…
While he uses a 13900, and has the settings maxed out a lot more than I do, I wondered if its my 5800x3d which might be a problem or I was hoping someone could point me to some configuration options which might be limiting me.
Ok I just double checked: I also get these very low game times in the location of the video (Grand Canyon and NYC).
But none of them is taken in heavy 3D environments like international airports and this seems to be where i get limited. Apparently photogrammetry is not limiting it in any way but these custom airports are, even smaller ones and/or the Premium Deluxe airports like OMDB.
So I dont know if there are any tweakings in these areas?
Hints and Ideas appreciated.
Some of the bespoke airports definitely kill the framerate, I think its due to the large number of textures required to model all the buildings and airport objects. I have 12G vram and it often fills up at large bespoke airports which kills the fps then my quest 3 hangs. I’m hoping Asobo will optimize the vram usage in future.
Just curious are you using OpenXR toolkit ? I use it to set it’s Turbo Mode and it really drops the latency quite alot which results in much better performance. It seems to be independent of the low latency setting in the sim.
I have a 4090 and 5800x3D and FS 2024 works OK for me, albeit with less performance than FS2020. CPU frame times vary depending on aircraft type and location. So for a glider in a rural area I get 8-10 ms main thread, in a busier area with say a C172 I get 10-13.2ms frame times on the CPU. I’m always GPU limited with a Pimax Crystal, with GPU frames times of around 19-22ms, so about double the CPU times. GPU load is always 98% or thereabouts.
