Helicopter controls

I’ve been working on getting the Pro-Flight Trainer Puma with a BH06 pre-release collective configured to work as it does in the real aircraft for the Cowansim B206B3 & B206L3.

Here are my profile assignments:

Using ‘SET STARTER 1’ requires the button to be held. If you release the button below self sustaining N1%, the starter will disengage and spool down.

‘THROTTLE 1 CUT’ should have the repeat function unchecked and the idle release will work correctly.

‘TOGGLE LANDING LIGHTS’ should have the repeat function unchecked. The two position switch is not modeled in the Cowansim B206B3/L3 so this is the best compromise on functionality. Flip the switch up one position then back to turn them on. Flip the switch up one position then back again, to turn them off.

For startup:

  • press and hold the starter button
  • when N1 reaches 12-15% roll throttle on until the idle release button pops up
  • roll throttle back against the idle release stop
  • release starter button when N1 reaches 40%
  • if TOT temp exceeds 927° (single red line on gauge) for more than 10 seconds, push idle release and roll off throttle to abort start (hot start)
  • allow N1 to stabilize ~60%
  • turn generator switch from START to GEN
  • Slowly roll throttle to full, keeping Torque gauge below 40%
  • check that the governor maintains the turbine and rotor rpm in the green arcs
  • use INCR/DECR GOV RPM switch to adjust as necessary (engine beep trim)
