• virtually identical.
Solutions:
• Finding a person during a SAR in a location were landing is impossible is completely possible and not uncommon, I believe the game should keep it this way.
• However, the mission should not be a single solution only like it is now (you must land within X range). Like the fly over in the plane, the helo should assess the lost person/patient (LP).
• If the LP is ambulatory (can walk) the range of landing should increase, if there is still no safe LZ in range the pilot and SAR Tech are given options land as close as possible, engine shutdown and hike to LP and back or if that is too far still radio accurate coordinates and RTB, finish mission with partial points (even better if calculations are done and determine if there was indeed a safe LZ 100x100’ and you missed it get penalized harder). Then if LP is still out there spawn a hoist mission same location.
• If LP is injured, require either a full landing, a low hover/toe touch were SAR tech exits and aids the LP to the helo, requiring an extra time and coordination if unable to maintain, must comeback and try again. Cut scene shouldn’t be a cut-scene it should happen as your hovering. If unable to comeback or land RTB and spawn it as a hoist mission w/two picks.
• Like OP said before hoist operator should communicate. Also the SAR Tech should help spot for the LP.
(wishful thinking now):
• There could even be false positives, wildlife, trash.
• Search areas with no person to locate, score is based of POD (probability of detection, an existing SAR calculation) i.e. computer calculates your coverage of the search area based off a reasonable sight distance. When you RTB a new SAR mission spawns at the same airport or a rest and refuel, get a different search location until found or called off.
• love the mirror, add flare gun, as it is a relatively short time frame signal and limited attempts use it for harder missions. added w/ SAR tech communications they could talk you into the direction they thought they saw it, if you miss it.
• also most common smoke signals would be from a campfire, colored smoke would general be found in situations where person was prepared for emergencies, maritime, military, etc.
• SAR missions for downed aircraft.
• Multi-Casualty Incidents
Most of this goes for the fixed wing aircraft as well, land in a safe location if close they come to you if not go get them, etc, can’t land no problem (partial points) spawn a helo mission.
