Hello, my old friend

MSFS2020 in VR this afternoon, flight from Jersey to Biarritz in the AA5B. Initially I had a lot of problems with stuttering and freezing so shut it down and checked all my settings, tweaking one or two then tried again.
Much better this time, but is it me or has the scenery suddenly improved. It seemed to be much better, clearer and more realistic, buildings in particular looked 3D. So I was wondering, is it possible MSFS has introduced the new scenery into 2020. I’m thinking the problems I was having could be due to new scenery…
Who needs MSFS2024!

Hello. What flight stick are you using? I’ve got the T.Flight HOTOS One. Having issues with the bindings! Can you assist me?

In 2020?

That is what this thread is focused on.

If you’re struggling with 2024, It’s my understanding that the default mapping for the HOTAS One is a bit of a mess. You’re going to want to start from scratch and set it up your own way. I’d check out this thread and this post to start:

Agreed. As far as I can tell, ATC is completely unusable for VFR flight now in 2024.

It might be they’ve moved some functions? I don’t know. But, it works much closer to real life in 2020. Now, I don’t know what the purpose of ATC is in 2024 is it’s missing so much functionality… in VFR. I haven’t tried an IFR flight yet.

2020 ATC closer to real life? Yikes! I stopped using it over a year ago and haven’t looked back. My own imagination provides better clearances and radar vectors than 2020, but that’s just how I roll. This morning I flew the new to Xbox Analog King Air for the 2nd time, throwing myself at all the toggle switches festooned around the cockpit. Good clean fun!

I sat down earlier today to fly the Comanche in 2020 and as I’ve been sitting here reflecting, I couldn’t help by ask myself, “Why wasn’t this the baseline for how 2024 should behave?”

The ramp wasn’t a wall-to-wall jumble of every kind of airplane, there was an avatar in the C152 that taxied by me, the taxing aircraft’s wheels weren’t halfway buried in the tarmac, the ATC choices were there and easily visible in the window, the aircraft had no weird compatibility quirks, etc.

I was just able to fly and didn’t have to avert my eyes from some blatantly obvious issue that ought not be so in my face.

No F-5 Freedom fighters or PC-24 military trainers on my single 5000 ft strip GA airport… :unamused:

I found this amusing.

I had put my laptop to sleep with 2024 running. When I woke it up, there was a white dialog box blah blah blahing about some crash and it had to be shutdown.

I put my sim rig PC to sleep with 2020 running with the Comanche in flight. I woke it up and resumed the flight no problem.

I flew both 2020 and 2024 last night. Both crashed on my first flight! :joy:

Sometimes it is the luck of the draw.

There has been some ongoing issue with 2020 that started yesterday.

I’d launched and slept 2020 well before that trouble began.

I wonder if I was able to evade it!

Slept right through it! :joy:

I’m glad I didn’t uninstall MSFS 2020 because the 2024 version isn’t enjoyable for virtual flying. I’ve returned to MSFS 2020 and am thoroughly enjoying flying the newly purchased iFly 737 MAX 8.

I’m so thrilled that I might just buy Airbus by Fenix tomorrow - or who knows, maybe even today if my excitement doesn’t let me sleep

Hi,

Did you vote for this Wishlist topic?

“…no point in going through my wishlist now because its been done in here a million times already…”

Thank you, on behalf of everyone.

Personally from what i see i would definitely argue against this statement.
The same bugs from 2020 reappearing? that would be a little odd if this was built from the ground up. Even the backwards compatibility mooted from the beginning struck me as an odd thing to say for a so called completely new version.

I can’t believe I hit the uninstall button on 2020 when I didn’t even need the space. My cleaned up new installation of it finished this morning. I think I may pop in to 2024 to do some career stuff-if they fix the hurricane turbulence even when it says 6KT wind in the briefing-then stay with 2020 for point to point, that and MP management of aircraft gets sorted out. I’ve dumped a few directly in the community folder and having add-ons on the hard drive definitely needs to be a thing.

Thank goodness all my add-on linker items are still in it’s own folder…Although I think I’m going to sub divide them even further. Funny how comfortable it is in 20, I had done some minor tinkering in certain aircraft I already remembered what I did before starting the sim proper. What will stink is having to remove the marshals and tugs again on every bush aircraft. And all those wonderful control configurations are still where I left them.

Although after tinkering with 24 I don’t feel as compulsive to have a swath of aircraft I don’t fly, world update areas I have yet to ever fly in and endless liveries, so it’s a bit meaner and leaner this time around. I’ve never uninstalled/reinstalled 2020 so will be nice to see tonight if it’s better than before.

Now may be the time to get that JF Piper bundle…

I know this forum has some wild views on this and that, but as I am one of the ones who bought, tried and returned 2024, I’m having a thought.

“What am I really missing out on?”

The biggest thing that comes to mind is the rapid loading speed of the sim at launch and into an aircraft, which is undoubtedly nice!

Yes, I miss out on a few 2024-specific aircraft, which I do miss a bit.

But beyond that?

Again, I’m flying 2020 and it looks pretty incredible. With the kind of GA flying I do, I’m a several thousand feet above the surface, so pebbles, rocks, grass, trees and animals aren’t going to be missed.

The Comanche flies really nicely, so I don’t feel like I’m really missing out on some major flight model changes. I do miss the ground handling, though.

I find the entire flight planning element of 2024 to be rather frustrating and cumbersome, plus buggy.

The automatically-selected airplane-specific controls are nice, but I don’t fly that many different types of aircraft to feel I miss that feature all that much.

I don’t think the Career Mode is going to be for me, either. It’s too scripted. If I need some direction in my flying, I can continue with my NeoFly career, which leaves the flying to me.

It is a bit weird. I was really excited about this new sim, but now that I’ve had it and let it go, I’m not sure what I’ve lost that is worthy of my tears.

For those that are still dabbling in it or are committed. What say you?

good question
actual, working right now features? or promised features?

for the ones working right now, i’d say the clouds and the new lighting engine, and the ground handling… i think all the rest i can live without

regarding promised features… a fully functional efb, synced to the a/c weight and balance, and paired to a functional atc, would be really a huge thing, but… when / if that happens… who knows… could very well be years

Ah, yes, I’d forgotten about those. The clouds and lighting are really nice upgrades.
