Tried booting up MFS 2020 via Game pass last night. I had not played the game for a couple of weeks, but it worked perfectly the last time I played. I was getting the crash to desktop issue without errors.

Noticed the data was off when I was looking at the settings to delete the rolling cache, so I turned it on and rebooted my PC. My rolling cache was turned off in settings, so I do not believe that was the cause of my C2D issue.
After the reboot, I had a 6gb update to download. I started at noon and by 4pm, it had only downloaded 2.5gb of the update and didn’t seem like it was progressing any further. I paused the download and restarted my PC yet again.
Now I can’t get the download to resume. It starts to download and then resets and just does that over and over.
Do you have any add-ons in your Community folder? If yes, please remove and retest before posting.
GPU - Nvida RTX 3080 Driver Version 465.89
CPU - i7 10700k
Ram - 16gb
Gamepass version of MFS 2020
I’m kind of at the point of just uninstalling and moving on, but I do enjoy playing the game so any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
Same problem here…I updated everything, Content Manager stuff, even my GPU Driver and my entire PC and it still won’t work…
I was flying pretty well and all of a sudden I lost connection and it told me “You have outdated content, do you want to update it and return to main screen?” or something, I presses “No” because I was in the middle of a flight…and the only thing that happened was that the same window popped up again…and again…and again…and…you know what happened next by now…
anyways, I hit yes because of frustraion and i was put into the “Press Any Key To Start” Screen…and after pressing a key, you might already know what happened…exactly, back at the “Press any blablabla” screen…and again and again…
After everything the sim just keeps crashing to desktop after like 1 minute at max in the world map…
frustrating
Also I should mention that I have the Premuim Deluxe edition and not a Game Pass one. So it can’t be the GamePasses fault
There’s a wasm issue from the community folder add-ons. Try removing/moving community items.
Just about when this thread started, MSFS 1.15.7.0 released through the MS Store-that’s the current release version.
There are several download steps for a world update:
- update the client MSFS app: MS Store/Steam update download
- update the content manager packages: inside the client MSFS app->points to the community folder
- “purchase” the world update (1-4 are free): these packages need downloading too
Pausing and starting can cause corruptions. The initial launch, a solution was to delete the content subfolder where the downloader hangs to force it down the entire folder again. May not be as necessary now, but one sure way to get fresh content files.
The downloads are often some kind of pack/zip like file, then they’re uncompressed once all the parts are downloaded. Download a bit, uncompress (download total stops), download some more, uncompress (download total stops)… until finished.
There are some very large files coming in (installer/downloader) to deal with. I know there are some distribution issues as to where the user is downloading from the cloud - using a wireless connection used to be an issue.
For an update: I check the MS Store update. Then, load the app. Ensure the content manager points to the install location I’ve used previously. Click update, then get the proverbial “cup of tea/coffee and read the paper” and look occasionally (if it looks like it’s looping e.g. item 2 of 182 for 5 minutes and keeps downloading, then intervene). A good solution, for me, is to wait for it to finish regardless of the time.
There are so many factors involved. Load balancing so everyone can update, locational issues - certain locations have a degraded distribution, checking the incoming data packages, saving to the storage location. Patience for these things.
