Help for computer inexperience: MODS

Hi guys, i see lots of people are using mods. I am computer stupid. I would like to get the RY turbo bonanza v2, but i have no idea how to do it.

Can someone give me a step by step?

Thanks in advance!

It’s just like any other FS2020 Mod. The author provides a Zip compressed file containing a folder which has all the Mod files enclosed. Download the file, decompress using a freeware like 7Zip (Windows built-in Zip can corrupt these kinds of files, I tend to avoid using that), and copy the folder into your Community Folder. Start FS2020 and if the Mod and Program work well together (every patch tends to break Mods, requiring a steeplechase where Mod authors issue their own updates after each patch), they will take effect.

This author has a massive PDF file that explains both the Mod details and how to install it, in the Documents folder inside the Mod folder.

Thanks. I have found the PDF and will see if I can find the community folder, seems its hidden somewhere. I have not downloaded any mods as yet. Appreciate the suggestions.

In case it helps, here is where my community folder is on my system:

C:\Users\markm\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.FlightSimulator_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalCache\Packages\Community

Locate this folder:

C:\Users\XXX\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft Flight Simulator

Where XXX is your user profile name in Windows on your PC.

Locate the file Usercfg.opt. Open it using Notepad or any text editor, but do not save any changes made if it asks you when you exit.

At the bottom of the file is a line that tells you where your official Packages folder is located. Inside you will find the Community folder.

Gosh, for a computer nitwit i’ll have to work on that for awhile!
Thanks!

Thanks to you both! A big help!

I have the steam version and my community folder is here:

C:\Users\YOUR_USERNAME_HERE\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft Flight Simulator\Packages\Community

Ok guys, so far so good. I have found the folder, the bonanza is unzipped [i think], it shows up in the content section of msfs, but not in the list of 30 airplanes. where do i find it?

If it shows up in the content, it should show up in the airplanes. Did you put it in the community folder with MSFS running, or put it in and start MSFS? Either way, why don’t you exit the program and restart it and see if it shows up in the airplane list. It may be in an odd order, so look carefully. I was convinced that what I put in wasn’t there, but found it to my embarrassment.

Hi Mark

I did not have the sim running when i extracted into the community folder; I started the sim after. And I have already rebooted the computer twice. I don’t know if it make a difference, but in the content manager, the title of the plane is moving [others are still] and it does not show the number of Mbs like others do over on the right side. I will take another look but the number of planes, in my case 30, has not changed.

Thanks!

That is strange. I hope you can find it. In Content manager, does it look like this:

This is a plane I bought outside MSFS and put in the community folder.

Yes, looks same, but text is moving from right to left. I’ll keep looking!
