Help: HDR & Eye Adaptation = Blown Out Whites from In-Cockpit Views

I’ve tried to search the various HDR-related threads, but I’m not really finding anything current nor very relative to this issue.

I really want to use HDR, but I end up with horrifically blown out whites – especially on the horizon. Depending on the design of the cockpit (such as those that place the pilot further away from the windscreen, the blow out will be significantly worse.

Of course, if I lean far forward and get my nose against the glass, the eye adaptation adjusts and the whites calm down and the graphics look good.

I’ve tried editing the UserCfg file and changing EyeAdaptation 1 to EyeAdaptation 0, but to no avail – the setting change does nothing.

I’ve used the Windows HDR Calibration tool to generate a custom profile, etc., but I just cannot dial out the horrific blow out.

I know many of you are using HDR. How are you dealing with this issue?

WElcome to MSFS 2020, sadly. HDR is awful in this sim, most of us who’ve been asking for some type of help on this topic just get ignored (3 years in), so I now use Nvidia Filters to alleviate the over exposure and blandness of the sim.

I have found a weird fix: if I switch the sim to windowed mode and then back to full screen, the blown out whites disappear and HDR looks a lot better. It’s really simple, just hit ALT+ENTER twice. It may not work for you but is worth a try.
