Help on ATC communication for landing

Hello there,
need some help to understand (ingame) FS2024 ATC communication for landing.
I always used the ingame ATC in FS2020, which was pretty awful: checked the comm menu on “nearest airports” (terrible!!), tuned in with the chat menu, requested landing from the airport. So far so bad, but worked.

The basic UI principle in FS2024 has unfortunately stayed the same.
But now with the EFB you can check and tune in the frequencies of the airport directly with a button press (“set”), which is great.
But either I’m too stupid to use it properly, or it is bugged:

  • I use the EFB and chose my target airport
  • wait until I am in reasonable close range
  • tune in Tower freq (or approach) of the airport via EFB → it goes into the airplanes comm
  • but I still cannot contact the tower with the “chat menu” to request landing

Anyone using this successfully? Hints appreciated
(yes I know FS2024 wants to improve further; yes I know there are external ATC options)

i dont use the EFB for frequencies (only for Localizer etc.) everything else im doing over the ATC/Comm menu with the chat popup. if i select the airport and contact the tower, it works for me.

Doesn’t work for me unfortunately.
Even if I dial in the tower frequency manually, I cannot contact it.
I always have to go through the annoying “nearest airport list” in the chat menu.
Also tested if I need to go through “approach” communication first, but they only do the flight following. Has no influence on the contact possibility to the tower for me :frowning:

is this at every airport? did you try the US?

Yes just tried KSFO 120.500 for comparison. No possibility to contact the tower directly via frequency setting, only with “nearest airports”

did you try the other tower frequency (269.100) and Unicom (122.950) too?

Yes also tried 122.950, not showing the tower to contact (see screenshot)
269.100 I cannot dial in that freq
(not shown in EFB ingame, but on FlightPlanner website)

Yeah, this is an odd one. I have the same experience. Setting the frequency of a tower you are within, say 15NM, from should give you same options in the ATC chat window as when you use “Nearest Airports” to tune one in.

This issue is probably worth a bug report, if you haven’t already.

Thanks for your Input. So far I have not filed a bug report, because I first wanted to find out if I’m doing something wrong or have a wrong understanding about how it should work

Hi,

You are not alone with this problem. I am also wondering about the ATC communication and I was not sure whether the bug is in the system or in front of it.

Very often the selection of Tune or Nearest Airport is missing. I can’t enter anything at all. Then I had the feeling that disable ATC Assistance in the options had helped. After that I could use Nearest Airport once again. Some time later I couldn’t any more.

In addition, of course, the large font and scrolling has become even more difficult, so the whole thing is currently very frustrating for me. Sightseeing in FS2024 is ok, but seriously flying Airliner is currently very disappointing for me (because of the in-game ATC and the crazy live-or-not-live, no flying AI and stupid static traffic settings).

Alright thanks, created a bug report. Guess it is on position 1428 to fix
