wouldn’t we all? New tech new problems
One thing on that, the 7800X3D runs on the “AM5” platform, and this is a still relatively new platform, that the next gen of AMD cpu’s will also use.
Contrast this with the Intel 13xxx, whose platform is EOL (end of life).
As for the 4090 vs 4080, either way you’ll be cpu bound where it counts in MSFS even at 4K. If you run 2K resolution then I don’t see as much compelling reason for a 4090. I personally bought a 4090 and I run 1 screen at 4K. Probably, I’d be just as well off with a 4080, however I have thoughts of playing around with multiple screens at 4K in which case, the 4090 may come in handy. Not that the 4080 can’t do that too, it’s just that the 4090 has the edge in vram, and I was tired of cutting corners with my sole vice (flight sim)
The 14th gen Intel parts will still use the same platform as 12th and 13th gen, but your overall point is still valid. Intel has already announced they’re moving on.
Just looking at the RTX 4080 but there seem to be several versions, all differently priced? Looks like they’re offered by different manufacturers as the specs seem the same… but I thought the manufacturer was invariably NIVIDIA GeForce?
Nvidia (or AMD) supplies the GPU silicon. The AIB partners build everything around it based on some reference design requirements from Nvidia/AMD. Nvidia does do some of their “own” cards, called Founder’s Edition cards, but not for every GPU.
For a given chipset, they’re all basically the same. Some AIB’s will add an extra fan, or turn up a clock speed slightly, or add RGB, or add more marketing jargon in an effort to extract more money from you.
Thanks. So the quality is the same? The Radeon RX 7900 24gb, for example, goes from £930 to £1700, on the same website — that’s nearly double!
An auto shop can sell the same car model but with different engine horsepower, different body work, paint, etc. One thing in common? They all have 4 wheels ![]()
Yes, but if the spec sheets were the same, wouldn’t you want to know why one was double the price? Same model, same VRAM, same letters/numbers after its name…
Why do you pay more for a Mercedes a180 than a Renault? Same engine…
Like bigcow74 said, they all add something, some have the frequency higher , some brands are better at cooling, some better at support, etc…
The 7900 XTX should be around $1000 USD, +/- maybe 10%. Any site that has a nearly 100% difference is a site I wouldn’t use anymore.
