Hi Folks; Request for your learnered advise!

Hello Everyone. I use MSFS2020 with VKB gladiator EVO and Stecs standard throttle along with two modules; GNX-FSM-GA and GNX SEM-V. I am considering going to VR headset (quest III with 240 resolution) Is this a good idea. I am frustrated with the fact, on visual and instrument approaches, I am limited by what I can see out the window of the TBM-930. I use all the mini hats and buttons on the joystick to increase my views. That said: it still is far short of the actual views, I see out of a real cockpit. I was hoping that the VR goggles would help.
Question: 1/ will using the goggles render my modules obsolete, as looking down at the modules for gear, flaps etc, would be a problem , I think?
Thanks in advance for all the advice.
Sincerely
Gary

Have you considered head tracking as an alternative?

I was just about to recommend the same thing, head tracking is more likely what you are looking for.

I fly the TBM most of the time and have home made panel with a second monitor under my main TV for the PFD, MFD, etc. I use the app smooth track with a spare phone and open track on my pc, works fantastically.

There are other head trackers to choose from but for only £10 it’s exceptional.

I was always frustrated with the inability to see my controls when my VR headset was on, and I was often fumbling around trying to find my throttle or flaps lever or whatever. I never even attempted to control knobs and switches on my autopilot device. I found myself having to peek out from underneath my headset to find the keyboard and hit a particular key. It’s one of the primary reasons I sold my VR headset.

As with the above recommendations, try head tracking. You can start very simple by using a smartphone camera and a head tracking app like Smoothtrack from the iPhone/Android app store. It’s pretty cheap.

You may find that’s good enough, or you may like it but want a bit more polished experience and decide to invest in something like Tobii. That’s the route I went.

All of those options are significantly cheaper than going down the VR route.

May I ask which Tobii system did you select.
Thanks

Jason: I tried the Delanclip and did not like it. The slightest movement shifted the screen all over the place. Are any head tracker smooth, so as to simulate real life movement?s
Thanks again

Tobii Eye Tracker 5.

I don’t own MSFS2024 but I am aware that Tobii integration is not great right now. I use it on MSFS2020 and it works very well, so I would hope that MSFS2024 gets updated properly to address issues.

You can adjust curves and sensitivities to make eye/head trackers more stable. Each system is a little bit different, so you would probably want to find a good YouTube tutorial on your chosen option and watch before buying. For the Tobii, I disable eye tracking and only use head tracking.
