TAJIKISTAN, Pamir - a tragic mass HAHO jump
In 1968 the USSR tried a propaganda coup:
dropping a large number of parachutists on Pik Lenin (23.400ft, pic) via the High-Altitude-High-Opening technigue.
As four men died it could not be exploited to the fullest - so the stunt is largely forgotten today, but YT video footage exists:
Десант на крышу мира - пик Ленина, 1968г (youtube.com)
In preparation for the big jump you fly a jet trainer out of Dushanbe over some of the highest mountains of Tajikistan’s Pamir (e.g. Pik Communismus 24.600ft, pic) to check alternatives and approaches.
Azurpoly Transall customers might actually simulate the drop, pics/videos of the action are appreciated (as is an english translation of the film).
