Description of the issue :

  • I hadn’t launched MSFS2024 for a few months, so I tried my second VR experience in a flight since November 2024 with my Pimax Crystal Light.

I was surprised to encounter performance issues and very low FPS. I hadn’t experienced this when I tested VR at the release in November 2024.

So I decided to try flying on the screen instead of in VR. On screen I have 60 fps it’s good but I saw that 15.8GB of my graphics card’s 20GB VRAM was being used… I wonder how that’s possible ? Sometimes it goes up to 17.5GB.
No tasks are currently running in the background. Only MSFS2024.

For now, I can’t use VR in MSFS2024 because it tells me that my graphics card’s VRAM memory limit has been reached.

We’re talking about an XFX RX 7900XT 20GB Graphics card.

:alarm_clock: FREQUENCY OF ISSUE

How often does this occur for you (Example: Just once, every time on sim load, intermittently) ?

  • Everytime.

REPRODUCTION STEPS

Please list clear steps you took in order to help our test team reproduce the same issue:

  1. Start a free flight with a Robin DR400 or any other aircraft (I tested it with CJSimulation’s R-FAL, and the VRAM increases even more).
Use any airport (in my case on the screen, Toussus-Le-Noble Aerodrome, LFPN), but it happens at any airport.

  2. Observe the VRAM usage

MEDIA

Lower your texture to medium.

Even the most powerful GPU available is going to struggle in VR with pretty well all your settings maxed out. There are some good Utubes around to have a look at - one I’ve used with some success is https://www.youtube-nocookie.com/embed/92MCHgsOH2Q The target is to get smoothness, not necessarily a high FPS, together with good clarity, and it’s quite possible with much lower graphic settings. Try reducing down to the suggestions then gradually turn up those that matter most to you until you get a satisfactory balance.

So, you’ve only tried VR twice with your Pimax Crystal Light, and this is your first post on the forum, and you open a bug report with your 2D settings?

Good catch…

Hi @NathanB7773780 and welcome to the forum !,

Thank you for this report. We’ve moved your topic into the User Support Hub.

The Bug Reporting Hub is for posting suspected or confirmed bugs that other users are able to reproduce without duplicating an existing bug report. Using the template or providing all the relevant information about your bug and sim setup is required in order to provide valuable information, feedback, and replication steps to our test team.

If you are not sure if your issue is a bug or need further input from the community, please use the User Support Hub category. If the community can replicate your issue, first search the Bug category to see if there’s an existing topic. If it already exists, contribute to that report. Duplicate bug reports will be closed.

If you believe it is a new report and no duplicate exists, then create a new bug topic using the provided topic template.

All issues caused by or involving third-party addons/mods should be reported to the third-party developer. Assure that no addons/mods are used when reporting issues in Bug Reports.

I’ve tested virtual reality twice with my Pimax Crystal Light, but perhaps you wanted me to tell you how many evenings I spent trying to optimize my VR simulation?

My 2D graphics settings mainly serve to highlight the fact that when I play in 2D on the screen, the simulation uses 16 GB of VRAM out of 20 GB, even though everything is set to Ultra. That’s not exactly normal.
If the simulator requires that much in 2D, it certainly won’t work in VR.

I didn’t mention it, but even after setting all the graphics options to “low” in my VR settings, there was no change to my problem.

Thanks a lot, I’ll check it out ! I’ve watched a lot of VR optimization videos, but not this one.

In VR setting foveated render enable and set to 35 made huge difference on smooth movement with high quality… you will hardly believe the difference!
