Remember back before the video promoting the XBox release showing higher FPS? They were people who passionately swore that 20 FPS was fine and how higher FPS is not needed in a flight sim game.
Fast forward to today, and the higher FPS is all the rage. So what do you think? Does higher FPS matter now, or are the 20 FPS crowd still playing at 20 FPS.
For me, I was content with 40-65 FPS before the SU5. I would trade my new 75 FPS for no CTDs and the previous visual quality and the old tool tips.
Me too…Yeah nice FPS is great, but what is the point if you degrade the LOD to accompany FPS…I mean…Any of us could of lowered our settings if low FPS was a problem, but now we are lowered settings to get higher FPS…Like you said…I’d pay to go back to how it was yesterday…Everything yesterday and ever since then was fine for me…plenty of vatsim flights…now can’t even recognize areas due to the low quality…Plus now I have CTD’s which I didn’t have before.
What I am also testing now is editing userCfg file in the localcache by changing the LOD factor from 1 to 4-5…Trying 5 now…little bit to much dip in FPS but I can see the resolution alot better at higher altitude.
As I was told by a simmer who’s been doing this a long time, FPS isn’t what matters in sims. It’s the visual fidelity, specifically if you fly VFR. Of course anything above 30 at 4k HDR is amazing, to me, but when it comes at a cost of visual fidelity and culling, it’s just not as worth it.
I turned it up in the CFG. It DOES make the draw distance better, but the morphing in and out of the trees, terrain, etc is NOT improved. At least on my new install of windows and fresh install of the game…no other software whatsoever.
I believe the morphing is just part of the new SU5 code, in order to “optimize” everything. By no means an expert, but pretty sure this is intentional.
