Honeycomb Alpha XPC Yoke USB-C Connector Problem

msfs-2020

Am I *****d? Connector ripped from board.

Youtube Vid of issue

Will they have to replace or repair? One year old. Looking at Virpel or Thrustmaster Boeing if Honeycomb Aeronautical can’t come through here.

You can solder the USB pins yourself if you have a small soldering iron and feel confident in your skills. If not, you should visit any nearby service center (electronic devices, laptops,PCs) - they should be able to solder the USB connector.

The current honeycomb isn’t the same business. Right now they’re making Alphas and Bravos, but not tge Alpha XPC (guess they don’t have access to more hall sensors).

Basically, they’re working through the current parts inventory from the 3rd party manufacturer.

Until I see XPCs shipping, not even going to think of them.

You might want to find a socket that fits on the board and solder it in place, then just plug the part into the socket.

It’s a design defect (no strain relief - a common problem with flight sim gear). Most gear us semi-disposable.

Honeycomb Alpha XPCs are in stock and shipping. Go to Flyhoneycomb.com.

They also have the original Alpha and Bravos and rudders and a seat for sale on their web-site. The company has been through some legal issues recently, but is now back in business.

No they are not. Only the originsk aloha (left side of screen). The Alpha XPC (hall sensors) is marked as out of stock. As of 30 seconds ago, it’s still out of stock.

If you want to buy a yoke without hall sensors, might as well just buy logitech yokes - sure they’re not great, but neither is the hineycomb great quality. You can get 2 yokes, 5 quadrants for less than 1 honeycomb yoke and quadrant. 15 levers for throttles, mix, props, trim, and 15 2-position switches.

The whole "it turns through 180 degrees is irrekevant - normally it’s small movements, light pressure with your fingertips. And the honeycomb quads are excessively bulky.

Not sure what site you are looking at but I checked before I posted and the Alpha XPC is in stock. Click on the link that i posted in my previous post. The flight seat is out of stock. Not sure if you are in the US but i am and it shows in stock. I also just added it to my cart and it says in stock.

I agree with you about buying yokes without hall sensors. I recently bought the Alpha XPC and use it with MSFS 2020…it is a great yoke! Before i purchased the Alpha XPC yoke I used the original honeycomb Alpha for 3 plus years without any problems.

Thx all for responding but i’m less concerned about what version Honeycomb has for sale than I am about the company repairing or replacing a $300 device.

Not sure how resoldering fixes problem. When the usb-c is connected and I laid it flat on the board, the device still wasn’t recognized. Will try to take it to electronics store because me trying to learn how to solder at this age isn’t gonna work.

It sounds like I need to consider an alternative yolk/stick solution than Honeycomb.

Update: local repair shop quoted $120. This is a brick unless HA comes thru. 3 weeks, no response.

$120 - with a warranty? If so, it’s probably worth considering if you like it.

You might want to replace the curly cable with an ordinary one, and make a stress relief where it enters the case. All controller manufacturers seem to think stress reliefs are optional.

@dt95050 is having an issue with the USB, not the LAN cable or the RJ-45 port. It seems that the user accidentally pressed on the USB cable, which unfortunately damaged the soldering on the PCB. The damage could also have occurred due to frequent careless unplugging of the USB cable.

I have had my XPC since October 2023 and all ports and cables have been working without any problems. This could be because I keep the XPC on my desk — I connected it once or twice and haven’t moved it since.
