Horrible performance on high performance PC

It depends if you want fly airliners or GA. Generally for GA complex 3rd party aircraft you can go high with settings. Using TLOD 300, TAA, 1440p with dynamic settings works perfectly fine on 4060 8GB. The rest is mix of ultra/high/mid settings. In heavy urban areas (Tokyo, London Nyc) I set TLOD 200. The sim with this settings looks stunning and performs well. In my case 1440p TAA 100% render scale and 50% fx sharpening looks better than dlss upscaled to 4k and is less vram hungry.

Airliners are something completely different. The settings for airliners should be lowered but I gave up flying airliners because of broken atc, live traffic and many more things in msfs24 so I can’t help.

One issue is with how jerky the movement is, especially with things like other vehicles around me. And the short moments where I can’t do anything and the game glitches out laggingly.

Now I am in msfs 2020, and I don’t know if all or some of what I say below is helpful in 2024. Surprised if it isn’t though.

This youtube clip saved me a lot of time with experimenting with effects of changing each of the graphics settings : https://www.youtube-nocookie.com/embed/JNOacTwj4Uw

Above is a useful summary from another site

off screen terrain and terrain vector data being set to Ultra - top video doesn’t show these.

I went through the same battle about a week ago.

Wired connection is probably important, first thing I did 10 days ago.

The ‘jerkiness’ I had was resolved with the link below :
….cleaning the caches as mentioned here (probably had the most benefit) ….. this video helped me a lot : https://www.youtube-nocookie.com/embed/5vvi7cZhLcw

Start with Texture Resolution = LOW, and adjust your settings around that. I took the FBW 380 out last night, and I got the resources warning with my 9950X, 4080S, and 64GB of ram. There is an annoying stutter in that aircraft with you pan side to side, but Low Texture Resolution solved it. On the other hand, I can run High texture resolution with the lovely JU-52 any day. Not every aircraft is going to behave well for you. Find the ones that work well for you, and learn to live without the others.

Little offtopic. Is there any plausible explanation wchich textures are actually affected by texture resolution? Is it only plane (outside and inside) or any objects. I assume that terrain is not affected. I haven’t found any official statement.

I’m not sure myself. But, let’s take a 2k monitor and fill it with white pixels. The size of that image will be much less than a 2k monitor filled with a complex 3D scene. There’s a lot more information packed into the 3D scene with shadows, reflections, etc. In the sim, we are constantly moving these payloads around between memory, CPU, disk and monitor. What makes every system a little different is the bus speeds, memory speeds, CPU speeds, monitor refresh speeds, etc. This is why it’s so tricky to tune the sim for performance. So, start with a smaller payload, and kick it around for a week. Then slowly increase the size of the payload until you start seeing stutters, etc. Then back it off one stop until it’s smooth again.

I’ve set everything to low-end and 1080, and it makes no difference to the jerkyness of movement or the glitch out 1-5 seconds pauses. I also get the resource warning while at low-end everything

Trying another monitor is an idea. It doesn’t matter which plane I’m flying either in terms of the flow of other things around me.

To me it seems as though the game is struggling but not graphically. Yet I’m certainly not an expert on topic.

Thanks a lot. That all seems very helpful and promising.

Well, it seems I’ve cursed myself, or something, because I can’t even successfully take off after about 10 attempts now. Its really hard to like this game, my god.

First, I somehow Crash while parked and doing checklists at some airport in Siberia, which I think is due to the airport. Twice it crashed me.

I had a couple of times where it won’t let me acknowledge clearance while doing checklists, and I just had to failed takeoffs a LAX because the runway is full of bumps and is unlevel.

I understand that making these simulators isn’t easy, but this game is a scam. I can’t believe there hasn’t been class action lawsuits yet. Once the leaked emails and what not get out, it’ll be game on.

I’ve never spent even half the time I’ve spent on this game, trying to tweak this and that, just to make it half functional, but it never ends. I think I’m done.
