Hi everyone.
Just looking for some HOTAS upgrade advice. Currently I’m enjoying the sim using my Thrustmaster T.1600 joystick and throttle combo which I bought pretty much when the sim came out as a good beginners HOTAS. Now as I’m fully addicted to the sim I’m thinking I’m ready for an upgrade and I’ve been looking at the Logitech X-56 Rhino and the Thrustmaster Warthog.
Is the Warthog really worth all that extra money? Does it actually offer any real benefit for enjoying the sim or is it just a case of it ‘feeling’ more expensive because of all that weight and metal? The X-56 looks like a kind of budget version of it.
At a push I could afford the Warthog and pedals but part of me thinks the X-56 might be a good halfway upgrade from the T.1600 to the Warthog, its pretty much half the price.
Might not be what you’re inquiring about but personally I’m using a VKB Gladiator NXT, Thrustmaster TWCS and TrackIR and I find it a pretty good combo for flight sims. I use it with great success in MSFS, P3D, XP and DCS. The VKB Gladiator NXT is a very good joystick for your money. There is a $120 version (Standard) and $150 version (Premium) and I’m using the latter though the former is enough for MSFS.

the warthog is so expensive because they used hi end switches and knobs, go read about it on their website.
i have the saitek X-55 = logitech X-56 since they bought saitek. so far i have no problems and enjoy my X-55.
as for which one to get depends on your willingness to part with your money
Thats always the way. Including pedals the Warthog would be about £500. I’m sort of inching towards the X-56 and giving that a go for a while and if I want to upgrade to the Warthog later then that option is open to me. Looking on Ebay there’s a fairly healthy second hand market so I could always sell the X-56 later on.
I’ll give it some more thought.
