I’ve just recently discovered that mildly overclocking my cpu/gpu not only gave me a much larger than expected fps boost, but also introduced some of the behaviors described here. Specifically drops down to sub 5fps at times, some running in the teens for a minute or two for no apparent reason, and quite a bit of stuttering. I’ve also had a few freezes, followed by CTDs.
It’s very interesting watching the FPS counter in developer mode. It’s reporting that my main thread is the primary limitation if I overclock the cpu to 5ghz, and that my GPU is the main limitation if I drop the overclock. The program definitely doesn’t like my CPU when it’s OC.
The GPU overclock definitely resulted in boosted FPS, but it’s only a mild OC. Why FPS just doubled in some situations is a mystery to me, but I’m fairly certain it’s the program limiting performance when the card isn’t OC, more than the card itself.
I’ve also just noticed that I’ve lost ATC functionality under my OC configuration. The radio just clicks, and subtitles flash so quickly that I can’t read them.
I’m not doing extensive testing right now. I’m just going to go back to default clocks, so I can actually fly. I’m thinking the CTDs were probably due to an unstable clock, but I’m definitely thinking the rest of my issues need fixing on MIcrosoft’s end. The issues I am seeing just scream program issue over hardware for sure now.
