How can i load more autogen and textures in the distance

Sim is awesome in fact so real that in the distance like 5SM im having blurry textures, and poor autogen like buildings not very well created and not to many buildings.. But as im getting closer everything is like real..

So how can i get better textures and building in the distance?

Thanks in advance.. Ill try to upload a foto later..

What is your Terrian LOD setting? Increasing this setting will help with textures in the distance.

Thanks for the fast reply.. Is 140

Back a few updates ago I could change the terrain LOD to a maximum of 5.9 by editing the usercfg.opt file. This gave the illusion of infinite terrain detail, but at the cost of FPS. If you have a beefy card you might get some mileage with that. I don’t do it anymore since with my 2060 Super, the performance impact is too great following several technical updates.

Yeah I agree, the LOD distances seem very low these days compared to when the sim is released. Even when one uses settings beyond ULTRA the edge of the drawing distance is so obvious and ruins the immersion.

Yep. This was done so rigs with less powerful GPU’s could play at acceptable levels. Those rigs can’t upgrade the GPU.

Yep, they ‘downgraded’ it so to speak for xbox and lower/mid-range PCs.

Yes and totally pointless. People with lower range PC’s should have played on low settings. Instead of wanting to play on unsuitable settings and then complaining of performance. There was never an issue with performance, if you had ULTRA PC you could play ULTRA settings. Instead everybody got dumbed down for no reason.

Yea
it wasn’t so much done for low end PC’s.

Yes it was.
There were many complaints. Here is a selection:

Tried with an edit of 5.0 in usercfg.opt. Looked no different to TLOD slider set to 400.

LOD ring for trees is low, autogen buildings viewing distance isn’t much better either.

Agree!
Ultra should be set for Ryzen 7800X3D (or higher CPU) and RTX 4090 with FG on.
I can accept that anyone who runs a top-end PC shouldn’t have their experience hamstrung so that my 5800X3D & 3080 Ti can also run MSFS with everything maxed out.

This is the sim back in April 2023

This is in June 2023

This again is in April 2023

This is Today..

We have different squares of textures, but also on the right side Mountains are triangles, the town down there is super blurry and last but not least, town barely has autogen..

Even if you check on the left side you can see a road and like 5 autogen trees XD..

MY LOD is in 300.. If everything remain static i guess is fine but when you fly over autogen appears from nowhere same with textures and detail in terrain/mountains which makes it very un real but also uncomfortable..

Here is a video in 4K

FS2024 is scheduled to include PG for the terrain (amongst other things), which will only make this problem worse. However, Asobo have also “promised” better performance from improved multi-threading, so the two may just cancel.

I just hope there will be full control for the user, allowing us to opt out of features which we don’t want, and to set our own quality/feature/performance levels to suit our own preferences for our own systems.

This is the unvarnished truth.

I wonder what the response would be if in FS2024 they included a performance evaluator that locked out higher settings for less capable systems, while still allowing those who have invested in the best PC hardware to run the sim with Ultra settings across the board.

An alternative solution could be to color-code the settings based on the specs of the computer - e.g.: You have a “low-end” PC (as defined by Asobo). You decide what FPS rate you would like to have (30, 60, etc..). You set one of the graphical settings to “Low” - it appears as green text. You then decide to set it as “medium” - the text now changes to yellow. If you set it to “Ultra”, the text is red. This would give a clear indication that you are choosing a setting that is too high for your current hardware. Depending on how complex the developers wanted to code into this feature, other settings might change color too: i.e. you change setting “A” from low to medium. This not only changes the text from green to yellow, but changes setting “B” from yellow to red. The logic behind the coding could get quite complicated very quickly, though
but that is perhaps where AI could come in handy.

I can see it now. Complaints about poor performance are not met with “What settings are you using?”

Rather, it will be, “What colors are you seeing?”

“Mostly yellow, with some red. But I don’t like the way the sim looks when all my settings are green.”

For those of us who’ve been apart of this sim since the alpha days
I can assure you, it definitely got downgraded, circa sim update 5, to prepare for Xbox and to alleviate a lot of the restrictions the FSX code had in it. For higher end PCs, it was a downgrade.

MSFS2024 hopefully will have better LOD, PG and customizable HDR (god, I sure hope - it’s 2023 after all, every AAA game has these options) but I’m not holding my breath.
