How do I know if I am getting streaming scenery?

Greetings!

I have MSFS 2020 installed and it works. . . . Sort of. . . .

The one thing I notice is that the scenery is absolutely NOTHING like the scenery I see posted by others for various areas. Not that the scenery is awful, but it is nothing like the fancy scenery I see others post.

And, it could just be my video stinks - which is extremely likely.

However, before I go crazy with the expensive solutions - like spending huge money on a crypto-mining certified video card to put in a five-thousand exa-flop supercomputer - I’d like to try the easy fixes first.

Some posters here have mentioned that crummy scenery can be caused by issues with streaming scenery - so I want to know how to verify that it’s actually working.

  • What should be enabled, (or disabled), and exactly where is that / are those setting(s)?
  • If the setting(s) is/are actually set, how do I verify that I am actually getting data? If I’m getting data, how do I verify that I am getting data fast enough?
  • If there are problems, where are error messages stored?
  • What else do I need to know to help set up streaming scenery?

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.
