How do you handle a hardware TrimWheel with open maps?

I use a Saitek Cessna TrimWheel under VR (Reverb). It’s a well-known issue that controls disconnect if you are hovering with the mouse over an open map (FSKneeboard, Sky4Sim Pad and others). On my system the TrimWheel only re-engages when I click with the mouse outside the map.

The usual result is the TrimWheel doesn’t work, which I don’t detect immediately and keep turning it, and when I click with the mouse outside the map the TrimWheel engages immediately with the then current rotational position and up or down goes the flight into heaven or hell.

This issue has been with me since - I think - the Beta Hotfix started. I read somewhere it is going to be repaired with SU VIII due 02/22. I am effectively unable to complete any longer flight under VR for weeks now and probably for 4 more weeks to come.

How do you guys handle this? Is there a trick or workaround to overcome this issue at least temporally (except not trimming the plane at all or only trimming it with the mouse in the virtual cockpit or not using any maps)?

Thanks for any hint.
