I have a good friend who owns a 172. He is an electronic engineer and has a good income. I have flown with him on a few occasions and he is a GREAT pilot. I have not seen or talked to him lately but he is the first to tell you that owning a plane “ain’t cheap” and you have to really “love to fly” every chance you get. He had the plane updated to a partial “glass cockpit” which cost him alot but he says it is “worth it” in terms of his flying experience. He is now in his late 70s and I am not sure what he is doing with the plane now. FWIW
