How expensive is to own a airplane?

In the UK, aircraft ownership in my personal experience removes almost all of the fun out of flying. Initially you arrive at the airfield look at your lovely shiny Cessna / Piper and think amazing , this is all mine. Then the annual maintenance arrives or worse the C of A check, then your aircraft is all the maintenance companies, who you have to rely on to charge you fair and competitive rates, problem is nobody really seems to know what these rates are (generally the figure in your head x 3) Having flown for many years in owned and rented aircraft , unless you are using the aircraft for a specific purpose, i.e work related travel, rented into a flying school for revenue, I would now always rent and save myself the heartache of that new prop required, new engine cylinder , new avionics , parking charges …
In fact aircraft ownership can be just like using MSFS2020. You can spend to much time tinkering and solving problems then actually using what is fundamentally a superb product and actually flying.
Have to agree with ‘LockStockBoy’ on this one !
