Yes and no. The ones that usually do at least for the common folk use them for work specifically ei the bush pilots.
The planes aren’t too expensive here, even some low hour prop planes aren’t too much. The issue is maintenance. A few of the normalish people I see own planes, tend to be AP’s aircraft mechanics which cuts down a bit on the cost of ownership.
For the majority of people I met that own planes they do somewhat of a timeshare. So multiple people own it cost are spilt, the best part being everyone throws money in for maintenance a month and other ownship costs. I’ve seen college kids at UND do this.
Some of the previous posts mentioned this, but I believe a middle class hopefully no children family, should be able to afford a basic plane. As long as they don’t have a lot of debts.
