How I am I getting 20Fps with high end hardware? RTX 4090

Hi Jarhead0514,

I originally starting playing this game on a 10700K and 3080. I tweaked all the settings and amped everything to the max. The game was barely playable. Fast forward to about a month ago I decided to shift away from Intel and invest in AMD on the AM5 Platform with the 7800X3D and RTX4090.

The system itself was relatively cheap with exception to the graphics card which I financed @ 0% APR. My gamble that as RTX5000 would start to trickle out mid Q1 next year it would be so hard to get and the demand for 4090s is still so over inflated that people would still pay retail for the 4090. This same phenomena occurred on the 2000/3000 shift 2 years ago. Essentially, I am betting that I can sell my 4090 with a 30% haircut and minimize my financial exposure for the short term and re-engange with B&H on another loan after selling the 4090. Outright I still end up spending a fare chunk of change but the situation I have put myself in doesn’t marry me to keeping the 4090 or holding off from the 5090. It still runs in my system with all of the shrink wrap still on to ensure that it gets top dollar on the resale market as well. Enough of that story!

The PC I just built has the 7800X3D and Gigabyte AERO 4090 with its incredible single threaded performance and insane L3 cache. Now the cache is an important part of the performance equation and alongside the 64GB of DDR5 6400MHZ memory I got, the performance to TDP ratio is insane over INTEL. Plus with 14 series CPU’s cooking themselves, the X3D has proven that its L3 Cache is extremely useful in FS2020. This could very well change with FS2024 as the engine has changed from a single threaded to a multi-threaded model but I have invested in AMD because they have decided to support AM5 until 2027 whereas intel changes their socket every other cycle. Also as an aside, the 7900 and 7950X3Ds also have the 3D cache technology on the TSMC 5nmFINFET but they are using two CCD’s and in order for the VCACHE to work at max efficiency for those chips during games one CCD is deactivated. The result is clock cycle headroom that the single CCD on the 7800 X3D does NOT have to deal with to perform the same operations.

So I am currently using a 7800 X3D and 4090 with frame gen on a 5120x1440 display which is about 89% of 4K. Many benchmarks use the simple aircraft far above the approach near terrain and buildings and generally display higher frame rates than you would actually see in game. I personally have been flying FBWA320 and more of the advanced aircraft into locales with settings turned to ultra and rarely see frame rates dip below 60. I am also using frame gen which is exclusive to the 40 series cards.

As I expect with the new release of the sim on nov 19 I will expect everyone to get a performance lift on their systems regardless of hardware because the game has been engineered to harness multi-threading and more performant graphics pipelines (DX12).

Still having a hard time figuring out why people are still going with intel

I have generally noticed in this thread that people are trying to cope with fiddling with settings with OC and bumping GF card max boost clocks. Honestly, if you are having to gas your equipment to get an alright experience Its probably time to take a step back and invest in higher end equipment. To be fair FS2020 was so horribly optimized and only ran alright on top of the line hardware, we should see very quickly with the new sim if they have done the LL work to ensure that the sim can run on a greater spectrum of hardware at playable frame rates.

Rolling cache must be enabled to 8GB. Turning it off will destroy your frame rate.
