How I fly my 1985 Cessna 152

I did a video last night of a standard pattern in my Cessna 152, also on my channel many videos including wing strut mounted GoPro of N1000U, my 1985 Cessna 152.

How to fly a 152

Very cool videos. I’m from east of Pittsburgh and not too far from KAGC, so I really enjoyed seeing your approach into there. It was also interesting to see your videos to KIDI and flying over IUP where my oldest is going to school.

I’ve done KAGC to KIDI a bunch of times in MSFS…will have to do a KBTP to KIDI now.

Oh that is really cool. What a small world. I actually live in Bethel Park off of rt 88. There is a 10 year waitlist for hangar space at AGC, so I have the plane hangered at Butler. I’m also on a waitlist at Washington County. Flying into AGC is fun because of the Bravo and that one section of the Bravo that drops to 3000 ft. You never know how the controller at AGC is going to have you come in. If you ever want to take a drive up to Butler I would be happy to show you the plane sometime. If you have any places around here that you want me to GoPro let me know and I will try to fly it.

I love how you mentioned “pitch for speed” on short final. That is how I used to fly. I remember there was quite a lot of discussion about this on previous posts a while ago.

That’s a discussion about as old as Ford vs Chevy and about as useful.
In the end it is not one or the other. It is always a combination of the two.
Which of the two is more important in that moment is what decides if it is first pitch then power or the other way around.
And of course the type of engine is a major factor in that decision. Piston Prop, Turbine Prop, low or high bypass jet.
With a powerful piston prop such as what we had in the Saratoga you can blip the throttle and get an almost instantaneous reaction.
The same blip in a J3 does not much more than make the noise change.
And nothing at all in a PT6

Got the adapter to record voice/ATC in the GoPro. Once this Canada smoke haze clears out of our area, I will do a video of class E uncontrolled (KBTP) into a Class D controlled (KAGC) and capture all the audio. You guys can see what the stress and workload is like at KBTP with an average of 8-10 flight school planes remaining in the pattern and the chaos that insues just trying to get out and back in with non-controlled and that load.

Sounds interesting. It would be neat if we eventually saw AI traffic like that around smaller airports in the Sim.

I’ve been following a flight instructor from Butler on Instagram. I think he’s out of KBTP.

you wouldn’t happen to have a link address to his instagram, want to see if its someone I know

Looks like he was/is with Highflight Academy at KBTP.

Beautiful day. Beautiful paint job, beautiful landing!

It would be great if LiveATC and real time ads-b could be fed into the sim. From a technical perspective it seems like it should be possible. If multiplayer works, why couldn’t that?

I can see an AI conflict when it comes to IFR traffic but VFR doesn’t really exist in the sim.

You can sort of do it if you have ForeFlight. You can see the traffic and your ownship on that, but you won’t it represented in the sim (at this time).
