How is the VR supposed to work with MS SIM

I know that there has been a lot of issues with the Oculus, etc. But bottom line how is the VR supposed to work? Can one still use the Joystick to control the aircraft but just use the VR for looking around or does one have to control the aircraft and everything through the VR? For someone new to VR and the Sim, it would probably be difficult to control the aircraft via the VR hand held devices.

Just like most other flight sims, joystick hardware for plane control, VR headset for the optics. VR controllers do not work in MSFS.

I have a VKB Gunfighter Mk III joystick, Warthog Throttle, and MFG Crosswind rudder pedals.
For VR I have the HP Reverb G2.

Thanks I was hoping it was that way. The next step is to see if I can get the Oculus 2 to work when I get it. From the sounds of it, it may be a challenge. Right now I using a Logitech Extreme 3D Pro Joystick which controls the aircraft well. The only thing is using the center button on the joystick to look around without affecting the control of the aircraft. It not like really being in the aircraft as panning is all or nothing. Thanks for your response.

If you haven’t used VR before, note that the clarity will not be the same in VR as on your monitor. Gauges might be hard to read without leaning in or zooming in. However, all the controls you currently use will still work. (Except VR controllers, as stated)

Thank you for your response. If I can’t get it to work the way I want on the sim, I can still play the VR games although the primary reason I purchased the VR was to use it with the Sim. I probably should have done some more research about compatibility before I purchased the Oculus.

Shouldn’t be an issue, Asobo have said that the VR is compatible with all headsets.

One thing you will probably need to do in the Oculus software is go to the settings and allow unknown sources (I think that’s what it’s called) which will allow the headset to see games not bought from the Oculus store and so not played from your Oculus library.

I’m no longer using Oculus, have a Reverb, but that’s what I had to do when I did have a Rift and played Elite through it. I’m assuming the software and settings are the same or similar to what they were when I had the Rift.

I can’t help with the Oculus Quest 2, but we got my son an Oculus Rift S for Christmas. I grabbed it early this morning and set it up on my computer and had it running with MSFS in about 5 minutes. I was highly impressed. Framerate was great, though the render scaling low (80%) so it was a little pixelated (though I left all other settings maxed out, so next time I steal…er…borrow his Rift, I’ll play around with the settings to try to get things cleaned up a little. Even so, all steam gauges were easy to read (I mainly fly the 152 and 172 as I’m a student pilot flying those IRL) and the terrain looked really good flying low and slow.

It definitely adds a huge step of realism to the sim experience.
