How many CTDs do you have per number of Flights? Lets compare?

I finally managed to get msfs to start installing again and like others it was gaming services that was the culprit.

Even though I did a windows reinstall keeping apps and data it didn’t help.

If is of any help here is what we did:-

Gaming services seemed to be failing to start but no amount of uninstalling, reinstalling with powershell or deleting registry entries helped. Eventually we found that gaming services were failing because it was failing to find some of the dll files needed to run. These were missing from the gaming services folder in c/user/“app data”. (Sorry can’t remember the exact path). Also we couldn’t paste anything, delete anything or do anything to any of the files and sub folders in there, we couldn’t even take ownership of the folder as admin or system user. Eventually we came to the conclusion that that folder or its permissions must be corrupt some how.

We uninstalled gaming services with powershell, and did another windows repair installation and that must have released the folder permissions and allowed gaming services to reinstall properly letting the Store start reinstalling the sim OK.

My next step would have been to reboot into safe mode and delete the gaming services folder, thankfully it wasn’t needed.

One thing I did find was that when I was reinstalling the world update packages from content manager was that I needed to do them one at a time as selecting more than one at once will cause a ctd.

What an absolute performance! Microsoft and Asobo really need to overhaul their install/upgrade methods. This has taken a week and the combined skills of a cyber security expert and a retired IT support engineer. What chance do muggles have?

Thanks to all those who have posted suggestions, your help has been most appreciated!

I look forwards with mild trepidation to the next hotfix

I may be getting CTD’s with Simlink also. This is the only 3rd party software I’m using with both hotfixes 14 and 15.

For me too. When I disable simlink in the start menu It resolves my CTD issues in menu and in flight so far.

I’ve had like 2 or 3 CTDs in the last week, not a lot. Not during any major flights. I suspect un-updated 3rd-party planes, and have removed the ones I haven’t fully tested (sometimes add-on planes appear as static traffic at airports, and surprise bugs in the sim can crash then). No CTDs since then yet.

The new world map looks nice, however I just CTD’d while looking around on the map. (Not started anything yet). Another 7 minute wait to reload the game. Note to self, do the browsing and deciding where to fly on google maps instead.

(I’m back to multiple CTDs weekly since SU5, luckily none during flight, always some menu or loading problem)

Probably because it’s sequential data which makes quite a lot of sense for rolling scenery

My CTD’s happen only when I have too much offline AI, had three since September last year.

i’ve been able to consistently either CTD or freeze when starting at a parking spot at ENBR every time i tried (tried around 5 times). Not sure if it’s starting cold from a parking spot causing the crash at that airport or the flight plan.
So i started on runway instead with only a departure and arrival airport, and am able to fly.

Other than that, i rarely CTD.
No mods installed besides the H135.

You might want to try all the other different parking spots at this airport.

no patience for that, lol, already on my way to Gardermoen.

Flying around Pisa, Italy I get CTD consistently when I get close to the tallest building by the airport.

unfortunately, more and more. Random timing though, but it always is a freeze of the image in my reverb G2, then I see a volume UI pop up, hear my G2 switch off/on sound and then all goes haywire… No choice but to kill the msfs process and restart. Perhaps I should re-install all again, but the software distribution coming from MS is soooo slow…

Just got a CTD while taxiing in Reykjavik.

No clue why, everything was running fine. It was the 3rd flight in a row though.

Must be something wrong with BIRK?

I’ll try take off somewhere else

Your post just struck me with an idea.

Can those of you who are having CTD issues report back as to whether or not flying from an exterior view is something you do regularly? I almost never am outside the cockpit, and when I am, it’s to take a quick screenshot or three, and then right back inside. And I almost never get unexplainable CTDs. The only exceptions to that have been:

A: When opening the VFR Map caused a CTD for everyone, every time.
B: When there were zones on Carenado aircraft that did the same.

Aside from that mine have been few and far between, and usually related to leaving a session paused for 10+ hours, and then trying to get it back going including using VR.

Having seen your photos makes me wonder if there is some connection there… In addition, the few times I do get them, there is no alert box like that. Just one minute I’m looking at MSFS on either my monitor or VR display, and the next I’m at the desktop or the “homescreen” for VR, with no error or warning messages at all.

I fly a lot, and a lot with exterior views. It’s just this particular airport that crashed. I also got a CTD while looking around on the world map and after first installing the A320NX. (CTD on loading flight)

I haven’t had any in flight anymore (since SU4), once in the air it’s fine. Maybe a combination of airport, plane, live weather, traffic, multiplayer. Who knows. Does that reporting to MS actually do anything (does the crash report end up with Asobo) or is there info somewhere buried in Windows that shows more detail.

If that’s directed at me, you’re asking the wrong guy. And I’m computer literate to the point of proudly accepting the title of “nerd”.

There is no rhyme or reason to CTD. Left from Maui and CTD over the pacific after ten minutes. Reset; went from Maui to DEN no issues. Went from DEN to LAS crashed over the mountains somewhere. Reset; no problems. Went from LAS to the Caribbean Islands no issues. First island hopping trip crash ten minutes in. Second and third island no issues. Went from there to Miami, Crashed about half a hour in. Reset; did it with no issues. Went from MIA to HOU, no issues. Decided to see what Kabul looked like in MSFT world; looks a lot better than the pictures on TV. Left Kabul for Dubai; crashed on final after two and a half hours. Gave up. Have no ideas. All this over several days; computer turned off every night. All on the cessna citation longitude; nothing in community folder but the WT mod and Dakfly’s mod. It’s one of life’s great mysteries, I guess.

Guys, I am happy to report that after SU5 hotfix 2 and subsequent updates from almost all the aircraft developers the number of CTDs has dropped to almost zero for me.

However, after all the lessons learnt during the early days when SU5 was unstable, I do have 2 very nice fixes for resuming flights and definitely decreasing the frustration and anger when we have a CTD in the middle of a long flight.

Solution 1: Use a replay tool like Flight Control Replay and hit the record button before final approach or whenever you like for a period of 10 seconds, therefore in the event of a CTD you can resume from that location and just load your replay.

Solution 2: You can resume your flight in a beautiful manner without any software by using the methods described beautifully by the YouTuber ‘Easyjetsimpilot’ in this video:

Since Hotfix #2 after SU5, I’ve had 1 CTD in dozens of flights. That one CTD occurred when I decided to experiment and added in live traffic and live weather at the same time. After the CTD, I disabled live traffic and the problem was resolved.

before the lastest update I had on CTD now it happens very frequently… every two to three loads. This is occurring when executing a bush trip…
