How many people have FS2024 but still choose FS2020?

That’s the boat I’m in. I’ve been flying airliners like the Fenix in 2020 just fine on medium or high settings, but in 2024 it’s absolutely unplayable on low settings (and at that point everything looks worse than 2020 anyway). Can’t even pan the camera in the cockpit without it becoming a slideshow. I want to like 2024 but the performance is just so much worse that it’s unplayable. I did have a couple successful flights with the RJ but I can’t keep 2024 installed for just a single aircraft. I’ll try it again when I am back from visiting family and am using my primary PC but for now 2024 is uninstalled. Plus even long standing issues like broken jetways on arrival weren’t fixed in 2024 so there’s hardly a reason to switch anyway beyond eye candy. I haven’t even tried the included aircraft after browsing the bug reports forum either (except for the C-17 from Miltech - that’s a quality aircraft, but again back to general 24 performance issues).

I have MSFS 2024 and I keep getting CTDs all the time so I am back to MSFS 2020 ( reinstalled).

I think MS and Asobo overreached.Ofcourse it is easy to be wise in hindsight yet that is how we learn. The focus should have been in an upgraded 2020 which no doubt would require rewrites. But all critical control aspects should have remained the same but improved improving the actual flying ekements.
That is where in the first instance the effort and focus should have been.
The additional gaming elements like career mode, specialist missions etc should have been add ons as they were perfected later. But the actual foundation of the game should in first ibstance be rock solid.
To release 2024 with all its innovations and new elements in one go was in my humble opinion one step too far. Now there are too many issues that need to be addressed resulting in dissatisfaction.

Im relatively new to flight simming (started in July 24) I worked hard to get everything the way I wanted it to be (going for max realism) Started with a rtx4050 laptop and I was enjoying myself so much I made it a point to get a new rig before launch. Several months and $5000 later 2024 happens. For me it was probably a good thing cause im back in 2020 optimizing everything on the new rig, buying amazing airports like Flytampa KLAS and MKStudios KLGA and KPHL. Enjoying this new peaceful hobby in something I completely love. I make it a point to fly at least one route in 2024 per week and I see where the sim is at. Im really waiting on FSLTL and Fenix to have integration/better integration and then I might just completely crossover.

I’m betting GA VFR flight will be the first thing I start doing regularly on 2024. Ill keep my more complex IFR setups back in 2020 until they achieve at least parity with 2024. I’m not worried as much about most of the visual improvements with IFR flight.

I tested it for about 2 weeks and never got back. My 2020 runs so perfectly with Fenix A320 + GSX and every other addon works - 2024 runs worse, looks worse, feels worse. When they just invested their time in 2020 we would have a perfect sim now.

Because of bugs with airplanes and other things, I only use FS 2020 to practice IFR flying, but for general low and slow “flightseeing” (99% of the time in a helicopter), it’s FS 2024 every time.

Yes exactly. Asobo’s problem is that with '20 we were so near the top of the ‘bang vs buck’ curve and the sim world vs real world curve that '24 would never be that much of an improvement even if it was all in really good condition.
They give us extra aircraft which is fine, career modes which arent - too broken - and way overcompliated control setups to endure.
They never fixed the annoyances of '20 in '24 and the way too many trees looks extra bad in it.
They created a bad themselves in '20 when an update added splats of ‘mashed potato’ to some rocks - notably the world-famous Rock of Gibraltar. But despite '24 supposedly getting round stretched textures on steep features the ‘mashed potato’ remains and looks terrible.
On my humble machine (Intel I9, GeForce 2080 Ti and 64 Gb Corsair RAM) it runs smoothly even on ultra (but I mostly prefer many things on high). It gives unthrottled 45 or so fps where '20 gave 55 - but I restrict '24 to 30 fps and '20 to 45 fps and both work really well.
I am keeping and using both - sometimes in one ‘flying time’ but certainly per week. Hoping that '24 will improve but suspecting not for months. And even then/if I will still fly with '20 regularly (I even still have FS9 on a gaming laptop and occasionally fly one of the vast number of addon aircraft I put on it.)

You are so correct. What’s interesting is now that we’re all saying this and are their paying(glorified) beta testers, why didn’t they poll us? To ask us how they could improve our 2020 flying experiences? This game is totally different than what we had. Very little elements are the same. So many things seem worse, not better. Why didn’t they add career modes as an option but continued to build upon a platform that they had made more stable? The graphics for this game compared to MS 2020 are atrocious. If you don’t believe me, pick any city and fly over it. The photogrammetry looks awful in comparison to 2020. How can this be an improvement? The supposed leap that they were making ended up being a massive stumble. My faith and confidence in them has dwindled. I feel like they’re not transparent and not looking for our interests but rather their own. Not quite the business model that anyone should feel good about.

The fuel burn while in sim rate has been fixed. The sim rate itself is still broken. It is still always 1X world time even if the airplane is flying 4X faster in sim rate. You will arrive hours before you should in game time. But now the fuel burn in correct so you will show up with the correct amount of fuel.

Many airplanes still don’t have working lights like the Longitude (that did have working lights in 2020). So still many things that need to be fixed before I can made 2020 my main sim. But hopefully before the end of 2025 MS will take 2024 out of beta.

With MSFS2024 a can’t taxi to my assigned gate on (London City (EGLC), because there is no room to taxi. On MSFS2020 there is room enough, so there is no problem.

As many have written before - still using very much '20. '24 still has far too many bugs in every part of the game. If its EFB flight planning in WorldMap, or the A320v2 truning all screens black and stopping to respond when spawning on the runway and so on... And my fav airplanes are missing or broken, like the Ju52, TwinOttter... Im into simming, not playing any career or missinion objectives. But honestly, I feel that’s not the goal of Asobo/MS with FS’24.
So far i`m flying a Cessna 172 in '24 from time to time, what seems to be the only thing i can get to work, kind of.

Still hope FS`24 will improve, but so far i still enjoy flying my FS’20.

They fixed things no one asked to be fixed. They broke things that always worked that are parts of the simulation.

Sadly I think they wanted to make a video game with all this fake flight training that has nothing to do with real flight training. And this whole making money before you can do missions and pay for courses with simulated cash… That should have been a pay for add on like Reno Air Races not a NEW FS 2024. That then also broke everything else.

In MSFS2020, get in the C152 Aerobat and practice some manouvers.

Scary…

Yep, I’m staying with 2020 until more of the “issues” are resolved with 2024.

I only fly FS2024, but that’s because I only fly GA. I’m sure I’d have gone back already if airliners were my thing. I’ve also had effectively no CTDs, no performance issues, but lots of smaller annoyances like multiplayer bugs, constant live traffic errors, etc. Not enough to get me to reinstall FS2020, but I get why plenty have gone back.

Since the updates 2024 is just not working for me anymore so i went back to 2020 for now. Honestly also atm 2020 is more stable and for me graphics wise (nvidia gtx1650ti) 2024 is a bit dissapointing.

Sure they fix stuff over time but just a very dissapointing launch

Probably will look after future updates and thinking about a new gaming laptop so who knows

I’ve experienced this a ton even with small planes in GA airfields. The way they populate traffic is a mess. Very often I’m boxed in by other aircraft.

I mainly fly the Antonov 225, and on MSFS 2020 have some bugs and performance issues, but on 2024 is completely broken

But no one seems to care about that despite me, even if it’s the symbol of the marketplace and the “gifted” model with the collector edition.

Inibuilds doesn’t care about it, they say its MS problem, so here we are. (despite Inibuilds being the devs of the aircraft) They don’t care about the airplanes, as this proof

For serious simming I use MFSFS2020, for a quick gaming session I fly a MSFS2024 mission.
